Sandra Kaye made six hundred 1 1/2" plus signs for her award-winning improvisational quilt, Happy Dance. She enjoyed the process so much, she had a hard time stopping...thus, the 600 pluses.

Happy Dance won Best Machine Quilting Frameless, Needle Stationary at QuiltCon 2018.

TQS wants to keep showing you non-quilting artists that can give you ideas, show you new perspectives and sometimes just blow your mind. The late Japanese graphic design artist Shigeo Fukuda is a perfect example. His posters and art are fun and amazing, but his shadow sculptures are in the "blow your mind" category. The shadow art is made with "junk" like welded scissors, forks or spoons. Shigeo once said, “I believe that in design, 30 percent dignity, 20 percent beauty and 50 percent absurdity are necessary." Here are some examples of his work:

The Here & Elsewhere Bee by Andrea Tsang Jackson and Sheri Lund, et al., won 1st Place in Group or Bee Quilts at QuiltCon 2018. We'll let the sign tell the story. It's right below the quilt.

"Asleep in the Cyclone" is an art installation in a hotel room. The hotel is the 21c Museum hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. We were caught by the use of triangles but were worried that quilters would lose sleep wondering if the ceiling was a design wall and whether they could change the colors and placement. Here are a few pictures. Click on LEARN MORE to get more information about the artists including a 2 minute video about the whole installation. (We checked and the price for next weekend would be $409/night.)

Canadian quilter Susan Kyle's quilt, All the Best Parties, won Best Machine Quilting - Framed, Needle Moves at QuiltCon 2018. She writes that her post-party tablecloth inspired the design of this free-motion, whole-cloth quilt.  It must have been a great party!

Alex has created two new patterns from her quilts. The Circle Play "Movie" pattern is from a quilt created for a movie that never got made. But you can work your scraps, use the ric rac, and sew the fun border yourself and reap the awards from your family and friends. Yes, it's Spring and you can create a garden that never needs tending and stays lush with happy birds all year 'round with Alex's Triangle Garden pattern.

Both patterns have been discounted from $19.95 to $14.95 and can be purchased on Alex's site, BUT if it is time to Join or Renew your 1-Year Membership at TQS you will be able to choose either pattern for FREE. After your purchase, an email will come with your choices (and a 30% off coupon in the shop).
