Using a photo of a stargazer lily that she took in her mother's garden as the basis, the main reason that Andrea Brokenshire wanted to create Stargazer Splendor was to make the anthers, "the part of a stamen that contains the pollen", of the flower. Enthralled with their texture, and their contrast against the fuchsia color, it was this feature that Andrea focused her work on for this piece. As a surprise bonus, there's is a bug hiding in the quilt too. Can you spot where it is?

Based on a true blue iris, Andrea Brokenshire's Beauty is in the Blues was an exercise in manipulation compared to her other flower quilts. The challenge for this one was creating the folding of the petals within only the blue fabric and making the beards of the iris stand out. And what did she make the beards out of it? Santa hat trim! With this added feature, the extra dimension Andrea has given her quilt really brings new life to an already vibrant plant.

Feather Zone is a collaboration between Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero and Teri Lucas. Jeanie says, "It was a bit of a challenge to put together the first time around -- so much so that I scrapped that attempt and started over." We think the second time around is quite stunning. Just finished last year, Andrea Brokenshire's Into The Haze Of The Mystic is another one of her wonderful flower quilts, this time featuring a Yellow Dahlia. It is one of the new projects she created for her Painting on Silk Workshop for the Empty Spool Seminars. Andrea says about the quilt, "I really love how the pebbled texture of the background complements the smooth lines of the dahlia."
