Holiday Glow - I love houses. When I received this calendar as a Christmas 2003 gift, I knew I had to make the quilt shown for December. It has patchwork, applique, and a little stenciling.
Endless Maze - My husband saw a picture of a quilt in a book and wanted to make it (yes, he is a quilter). He really likes geometric designs. So we designed our own version and made it together. There are 40 fabrics in the quilt. Our marriage survived but it was a bit tenuous at times.
Beacon of Light - This wall hanging was designed as a 25th anniversary challange with the Greater Moncton Quilt Guild. Requirements were 25 stars, 1 large, 4 medium and 20 small + the use of silver lame in one star. I hid my stars in the landscape.
Finding My Way - Trio of Geese was the May 2013 block for the Block Lotto. Each trio is arranged in light-medium-dark value order. While working on the quilt, I started wondering how geese navigate. I doubt they actually use the stars, but I added some Sawtooth Star blocks to help them find their way.
Poppi-Suns - I began the poppy pattern to teach myself machine applique. Once the poppies were completed, I drafted the "suns" for the center of the quilt. This quilt has won various awards in local and state competitions as well as been juried into the 2006 AQS show in Nashville. It was also chosen for use in the AQS 2008 Quilt Art Engagement Calendar.
Tore's Journey after Rene Magrite - After finding a photo of my grandfather in a "bowler" hat, I decided to make this quilt in the style of the artist Rene Magrite. My grandfather floats down over the surface of the Swedish flag into the United States. The crowns (tre kroner) represent Sweden, Norway, and Denmark or the three countries that came together in a peace pact. The yellow cross of the Swedish flag becomes the path for Tore, my grandfather.
Friendship Medallion - I made this wallhanging from the half-square triangles I got from the SOTT and Batiks R Us exchanges on the Quilt Show website in 2011. They came from 42 states and 6 countries.
Tony's Lone Star - I used the Star of Bethlehem pattern from Quilts,Quilts,Quilts by Laura McClun and Laura Nownes. The stars in each corner were from the pattern Texas Traditions by Susie Edwards, Pampa Tx. Retirement Quilt for my husband's retirement from the State of Texas.
Rick Rack Spools - A small quilt pieced for a Civil War class using reporduction fabrics from my stash. I use it to cover my sewing machine when it's not in use.
Summers End - I love quilting, batiks and dogs...so this was a perfect quilt for me to make ! I made a second one just like it for my dearest friend who also loves dogs. I hope to soon try making a wall hanging with rabbits!
Malu Lani - This quilt celebrates 40 years of friendship between Laurie and me. Laurie lived for many years in Hawaii. Malu Lani means "protected by heaven" and was made to warm her as she continues to successfully battle cancer. I used Stacy Michell's technique for the applique and blanket stitching, echo quilted each block, and then assembled the quilt. Postscript: my dear friend died in January 2010; still protected by heaven.
Galaxy of Colors - The Hoffman challenge fabric 2005 “Ribbons” got me thinking of a repeating band, weaving in and out of the quilt surface. Beads are added to suggest movement.
Earth to Quilters - This is one of the many embroiderblocks of the month program created by the HoopSisters. I wanted the "Earth" to stand out so I didn't use a background that had a lot of pattern to it. I really love doing these embroider in the hoop blocks. It makes quilting so easy!
Three Sisters - Entirely paper pieced. First time I used that method. The pattern called for a winter scene, and the mountains were whilte, grey, and purple. I decided to do a summer scene, since I am not a skier, but love hiking. The mini-quilts are done in scraps from other quilts I have made, and are to remind us of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, which I attended this summer for the first time. WOW!
