Seminole Experiment
Name of Maker: AmyBee
Seminole Experiment - I fell in love with the Seminole strips after the Simply Quilts show! I just started making the different patterns (each patterned strip is about 40 inches long) from my stash of batiks. Pretty soon I realized I had enough to make a quilt top and worked that way. I did all the quilting myself. Each row has a different quilting pattern. I am especially pleased with the "Flame" stitching as well as the "Water" stitching.
GO Red Sox!
Name of Maker: Ruth-Ellen Flanagan
GO Red Sox! - My Uncle Hy has been helping me out with my Mom who lives in an Assisted Living place back home in Worcester, MA. He has Macular Degeneration now and can't drive so much anymore. I know he likes the Red Sox, so I made this t-shirt quilt for him to keep him warm.
Samantha's Quilt
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Samantha's Quilt - I drew the raccoon off a card given to me at my office. When Samantha was born I finished the quilt and gave it to her. The raccoon stands in a pond with cat tails and bluebirds are flying above. A fish is jumping in the pond.
Midnight Stars
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Midnight Stars - I used several different 8 point star blocks with amish colors to make this quilt. I drafted all of the patterns myself.
Krista's Kitchen
Name of Maker: Terri Bray
Krista's Kitchen - These are Hot Pads made for my niece as a housewarming gift. They measure 10 1/5" square and match the colors in her new kitchen. She has Cherry wood cabinets and black marble & travertine tile backsplash. Her kitchen is very rich looking. I made these as a quick last minute gift.
Broken Star
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Broken Star - I made this broken star for my sister and her husband in black and amish colors
Union Star
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Union Star - Made for my Mother and Father in Law. Red white and blue.
oriental star
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
oriental star - I wanted to do a scrap quilt but ended up buying a whole lot of fabric so I could do this quilt in rainbow colors.
Broken Star
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Broken Star - I made this broken star quilt for my parents 45th wedding anniversary. The colors were the colors in their room and the squares and triangles around the star were quilted with the names and birthdate of their five children and their grandchildren, also included were their names and the date they married. They enjoyed the quilt for twenty one years until my mother passed away. I now have the quilt back and will pass it on to one of their grandchildren.
Jenny's Chemo Quilt
Name of Maker: Patricia Rahrig
Jenny's Chemo Quilt - A co-worker and friend was recently diagnosed with cancer so I made this quilt to help her through her chemotherapy.
Alishas Quilt
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Alishas Quilt - This is the first quilt I designed on EQ6. My husband and I collaborated on designing this quilt for our granddaughter Alisha. I started with a Checkered Star (one of my favorite patterns) and added Sun borders. I selected green since it is Alisha's favorite color and rose pink seemed to go with the green.
Country Bear
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Country Bear - After my success with drawing my California Quilt designs I drew this adaptation of Disney's Country bear. I bordered him with bears paw and added bear feet in the side borders. My husband is a bear hunter and so bears are a special theme for me.
Frogs are people too
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Frogs are people too - I drew this frog off a postcard I picked up in San Diego. My husband called his youngest son Frog, so when I saw this postcard I knew I wanted to make it into a quilt. My husband and his sons helped his ex father in law on a cattle ranch. So the cowboy frog was just too appropriate. I finished the quilt off with a wild goose chase border.
California Quilt
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
California Quilt - I designed this quilt around my family history in the California Gold Rush. The center figure is a gold minor panning gold. Above him is the golden gate bridge, on either side are towering sequoia trees, below him is a bear and in the corners are quails. When I started the project I wanted the gold minor as the central medallion, my husband told me I needed the other elements. I drew all the images myself and believe me I am no artist.
Checkered Star
Name of Maker: Carol A. Mercer
Checkered Star - I made this checkered star in the 80's from Jenny Beyers book of blocks and borders. It is made with navy, lavender and white. I loved the quilt and it got a lot of attention including being selected by pictured in Ladies circle patchwork quilts in August 1991. However the navy fabric faded quickly and the quilt had to be put away to prevent further damage.
Snail's Crawl
Name of Maker: Amy Harry
Snail's Crawl - This was my first attempt at a wholecloth quilt. I marked the design with wash-out blue marking pens, then off I went. I used Cotton Sateen fabric and YLI #100 silk thread. My biggest challenge was getting the border to fit together. That's still my biggest challenge.
Being Square Is Good
Name of Maker: Vivian Oliver
Being Square Is Good - Totally scraps of former projects. Finished squares are 1", 1-1/2" and 2" -- lots and lots of squares.
Cow Parade
Name of Maker: Group of friends
Cow Parade - This is a fused raw edge applique in which each block was made by a different person using different fabrics but the same component parts (some mirror imaged). The quilt is a baby shower present for a colleague at work. It is the Chinese year of the Ox (cow) so a quilt of cute cows seemed appropriate. Sixteen co-workers contributed to the making, with three of us then assembling the top and quilting.
Dallas' Lone Star
Name of Maker: Marilyn Smith
Dallas' Lone Star - This year I am going to make Lone Star quilts for my five grandchildren. This quilt is the first I have completed. Dallas' Lone Star is made with blue and yellow fabrics from Walmart in a traditional Lone Star Pattern. It is heavily quilted by machine, using a grid pattern, Baptist Fan, and a feather design. This quilt is bound in a blue and yellow checked fabric. I had trouble giving this away because I loved the quilting in it so much. The fabrics are the same fabrics used for another quilt I entered into the gallery earlier, Laine's Winding Ways Quilt.
