Grandpa's Shirts
Name of Maker: amonserud
Grandpa's Shirts - When Anneliese's grandpa died, her mom wanted to give her something to remember grandpa. She brought me all of her father's shirts and asked me to design and construct a quilt for Anneliese. This is the result after cutting apart then strip cutting many shirts and piecing together the resulting thousands of pieces of fabric. Annaliese's grandpa worked for John Deere and loved fishing. You'll notice the t-shirt blocks honoring these parts of his life and the longarmed fish swimmong around the border of the quilt.
Grandpa's and Uncle Harold's Ties
Name of Maker: amonserud
Grandpa's and Uncle Harold's Ties - When my father-in-law passed away, I received a box of his ties. I combined these ties with those of Uncle Harold and created 14 ties for each of my father-in-law's grandchildren and presented the quilts to them at our family reunion. It took a long time to prepare the ties for cutting and piecing!
Mary's Retirement
Name of Maker: amonserud
Mary's Retirement - When Mary retired from her long-time position as a school librarian, I made this quilt in her honor. Many of her colleagues contributed memories (in the form of book titles) along with their name (as book author) and some even contributed fabric for their book spines. Two other friends and I added the "titles" and "authors" to strips of colorful iron-on tape using permanent inks. The quilt commemorates her outstanding career as a media specialist in the schools.
I Remember When
Name of Maker: Sandy Jung
I Remember When - "I Remember When" is based on a picture I drew when I was a young girl. My mom wasn't one to save things, but after she passed away, I found my picture. Now, 65 years later, the picture is deteriorating - the colors are fading, the paper is tearing. I decided to recreate my orginal drawing in fabric as a quilt. My mom didn't live long enough to know that I had become a quilter. So, in memory of my mom, this one's for you.
Etude de Chat en Violet
Name of Maker: Carol Deards
Etude de Chat en Violet - This Himalayan cat with his intent, focused gaze intrigued me. I felt that violet/purple set him off perfectly. I used applique and reverse applique techniques with raw edges finished in satin stitching. I used green silk for the eyes, a perfect match to the color in the photograph. I machine stitched free-form hearts all around him since he is a beloved member of his family.
Lynda's Flower Basket
Name of Maker: Lynda Schuler
Lynda's Flower Basket - 2008 Machine Applique class with Sue Nickels for the center block, then 2009 class with Becky Goldsmith of Piece o'Cake taught hand applieque for the cornerstones. Machine quilting teachers Sharon Schamber, Sue Patten, and Cindy Needham.
Wonky Me
Name of Maker: BonnieB2
Wonky Me - I discovered the fun and creative designs of MamaCJT quite by accident and wanted to attempt her wonky style of portraiture.
We Three Sisters
Name of Maker: BonnieB2
We Three Sisters - A fun applique pattern that I first saw on Pam Dransfeldt's Joyful Quilter facebook page. Since there are three of us sisters, we decided to make one for each of us. We used different colors in each of the three quilts and then gave one to our non-quilting sister (pictured on the far right) as a birthday gift last December. It was a lot of fun. My sister, Leslie (pictured in the middle), and I pretty much made these at a Brown Bag Retreat at my LQS - The Creation Station, last July.
The Language of Color
Name of Maker: Shirley Raley
The Language of Color - Home Depot in Rome, Ga was given a grant to help renovate the dorms for the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, GA. I became involved with the project since my husband was heading it up. The students had asked for the walls to be painted in very bright, vibrant colors. It "hit" me how important color was in their world. I made this wall hanging to go in one of the gathering rooms in their dorm building.
Souvenirs
Name of Maker: France Courteau
Souvenirs - I did this quilt for my son Félix. I used the reversible technic by Sharon Pederson. Scanned photos and printed on fabric. Backing is cotton, New-York scenes. The borders and corners were embroidered.
Last of the Blueberries
Name of Maker: JoAnn Hoffman
Last of the Blueberries - Hand painted silk bird, embroidered swirls and snowflakes. Swaroski crytals added.
Aussie Quilt
Name of Maker: Trudy Janknegt
Aussie Quilt - The first time I visited Australia, I took some aboriginal fabric home to the Netherlands. When we were so lucky to get the change to go there again the next year, I decided to make a quilt with the fabric to show my thanks to the community we visited.
Aussie with a wink
Name of Maker: Trudy Janknegt
Aussie with a wink - During our 2nd visit to Perth, I promissed my friend to make her a quilt. This is the result.
Carpenter Star Quilt
Name of Maker: Ariane Kring
Carpenter Star Quilt - I made this Carpenter Star Quilt after seeing a free quilt pattern on the website Maryquilts.com , for a lap size version of this jumbo block. I used the Accuquilt GO! cutter and the 6 1/2 inch hst die to cut my blocks. I designed an original border for the quilt, as I wanted to make a queen size quilt. This quilt was made for my brother Pierre and his wife Christa's wedding gift. It was machine pieced and machine quilted by Ariane Kring (that's me). I quilted it on a 30 year old Kenmore domestic sewing machine. It was definitely a challenge. But, it was well worth the effort. They loved their gift.
Jack in the pulpit quilt
Name of Maker: Ariane Kring
Jack in the pulpit quilt - I made this quilt in 2010 for my best friend Gloria's wedding gift. I used the Jack in the Pulpit pattern found in McCalls Magazine Spring 2009 special issue, Celebrate Your Stash. It was a very well written pattern. I didn't have any issues piecing the top. I had only been quilting two years and I was self taught. I quilted it very simply. I was still very new at quilting and this was such a huge bed quilt. I quilted it on my 30 year old domestic Kenmore sewing machine.
Kalevalan komeetta
Name of Maker: mimuscraft
Kalevalan komeetta - Made this quilt after seeing slide show of kaleidoscope quilts. I was all stunned by the slide show, and just wanted to make kaleidoscope quilt. So this was my first attempt on this technique. Name of the quilt refers to Finnish national epic Kalevala, print fabric used is "Kanteleen kutsu" designed by Sanna Annukka/Marimekko.
Rose Kaleidoscope
Name of Maker: mimuscraft
Rose Kaleidoscope - This was my second attempt on kaleidoscope quilt. After finishing it, I sort of hated it. Quilt just did not look as I imagined it should look. After awhile it started to look better, now I could even hang it on a wall. Roses are paper pieced and appliqued to quilt top.
Spring Garden
Name of Maker: Debbie Shaw
Spring Garden - This is a whimsical wall quilt based on Kim Diehl's design in American Patchwork and Quilting magazine- Apr. 2012 issue. It has pieced blocks and the applique is done in the needle turn method then embelished with black thread for a pencil drawn effect. It is densly quilted in free motion style and it has a pieced back (see picture) with a sleeve for hanging. It has 2 Corinthians 4:17 quilted in to the border and is echo quilted around the flowers, and an all over design in the center with a medalian on each corner
