Did you guess that it was Marilyn Badger? This time it was the Pfaff Master Award for Machine Artistry at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2019.

There is color and texture and hand stitching and ... take a look for yourself.
Alex spoke with veteran Andrew Lee about his quilt Shock and Awe at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2019. Andrew discovered quilting as a therapy to help with PTSD. Andrew works with Quilts of Valor and was going to present a quilt on the day of this interview.
Alex also talks with Andrew and his wife about quilting and gets a peek at the studio they share.
Thank you for your service Andrew and thank you for sharing your quilt with TQS.
It is with a heavy heart that we remember TQS member Dana Shanes Lynch, who passed away this week after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Dana was a member of a group called the Amazing Eight--quilting friends from all over the country who met online at TQS. This group collaborated on award-winning quilts. She will be missed by many and remembered as not only a talented artist but a wonderful friend to so many in the quilt community.
Dana's friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help Dana's family with medical bills and funeral costs. Anything you can do to help defray these costs will be greatly appreciated.
We'd like to share some videos from a very happy time when the Amazing Eight were together in Houston and celebrating their 1st place Group Quilt win for their Amazing Aztec-nicolor Dream Quilt. Here is a Go Tell It interview from the Quilt Alliance featuring Dana.
Dana, we will miss your smiling face and gentle heart.

The Amazing Eight, TQS members who met right here online at TQS, won First Place, Group, at IQA Houston 2014. This is the third quilt that the group has created. Together they share some tips on how they work together, what sort of problems they ran into, and how the quilt was created.
Congratulations ladies!

Here's another Dynamic Dresden quilt, Five Golden Rings, made by Tami Gallogly for Susan Cleveland to share. Tami created "double" Dresden rings by laying one on top of the other to great effect.

Today we continue our selection of quilts recently displayed at the Spring Paducah 2019 show featured as part of The 14th Quilt Nihon Exhibition. The exhibit is described as:
"Organized by the Japan Handicraft Instructors' Association, the Quilt Nihon Exhibition is one of the most prestigious international quilt contests in Japan. The exhibit features 42 quilts from the "Innovative Traditional" category, which will later be exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art."
Please enjoy the twenty-third quilt from the exhibition by Akiko Wakebe.
The park right in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston is called Discovery Green. It is beautifully maintained and is a wonderful place for weekends and events. We love seeing the flowers and plants each year.
Susan Cleveland Ioves precision piecing and has spent a great deal of time developing lots of little tips to give quilters greater success! Perfect for all levels of quilter from those who want to start off on the right foot, to quilters who want to tackle more challenging designs.

Helen took a wool appliqué pattern and recreated it using needle turn appliqué to create her quilt, Round the Garden. That's a lot of edges to turn under. She further enhanced the design with embroidery and hundreds of French and Colonial knots. This is not your 'quilt-in-a-day' quilt. Did we mention that it was part of the SMALL appliqué category at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2019?
Marilyn Smith's quilt, 15 Warthogs, won not one, but two awards. It was selected as the Judge's Choice award by Cindy Seitz-Krug and also won Viewer's Choice award at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2019. It was exhibited as part of the Alternative Techniques category and while the color and graphic impact catches your eye, you are drawn in by all the meticulous detail on each warthog.
