Here are some great resolutions from Gayle Norman that we found at RickyTims.com:

I RESOLVE not to feel guilty when I buy fabric with absolutely no future use in mind. It makes me immensely happy to buy it, fondle it and just look at it and that makes it worth it!

I RESOLVE that next year when I look at that same fabric and wonder why the heck I bought it, I still won't feel guilty but simply pass it on to a friend, the Goodwill, a retirement facility, or an organization that does charity quilts.

I RESOLVE that I will continue to guard carefully my sewing and quilting time. This keeps me happy and able to serve the rest of my world.

I RESOLVE that I will continue to support and encourage all the young people in my life who take an interest in this craft that I am so passionate about.

I RESOLVE to surround myself as much as possible with friends who love quilting and fabric collecting as much as I do.

And lastly, I REFUSE to put deadlines or limits on my creative spirit.

"Inspired by a photo taken of a green sea turtle in its natural habitat", Melanie Marr wanted to portray the tranquility experienced by this gentle creature. "The blue-green of the water makes this a very calming quilt, which is why I named it Serenity." Featured at Houston 2019, Melanie incorporated free-motion machine quiltingpainting, and drawing to capture the calm and stillness felt as the turtle swims along.

Serenity by Melanie Marr of Houston, Texas was featured in the Painted Surface category at Houston 2019.

Not spending the whole day in the sewing room? Do you leave your iron plugged in (it's auto-off, after all) OR do you unplug?

When people hear the name Wendy Williams in the quilting world, they probably think of her Round the Garden quilt. Featuring wonderful wool work and embellishments, it stands out most because of its circular design. This design, which you may have already figured out, is a predecessor and influence on our 2021 BOM Color My World.

TQS continues its feature of quilts exhibited in 2020 at QuiltCon as part of The Quilts of Victoria Findlay Wolfe exhibit. The exhibit is described as:

"Purposeful play is a deliberate free-form practice with one goal in mind: to ultimately improve the outcome of the finished product while capturing a thought, emotion, or technique. Always fascinated by color, pattern, and quilters who came before us, Victoria Findlay Wolfe found her life's true joy in exploring her grandmother's quiltmaking as a starting point.

Her diverse and exciting body of work stirs quilters worldwide to dig deeper, take risks, and experiment with fabric. This retrospective exhibit features a selection of Findlay Wolfe's inspiring quilts and the stories behind them."

Please enjoy Victoria's fifteenth quilt from the exhibition.

Sometimes we appreciate something more for its look than its purpose. Esterita Austin took that to heart by "finding the beauty in old and corroded man-made forms that naturally combine with nature." For this quilt that turned out to be a tree growing up through and old car in the aptly titled Trunk in the Junk. Featured at Houston 2019, "it incorporates an original transfer technique that is a form of monoprinting" along with machine quilting and painting. Hey, if you can't make the car run, at least turn it into something that's nice to look at.

This quilt from the Minimalist Design category at QuiltCon 2015 is Modern Mojo 2 by Linda Thielfoldt. Here's what Linda has to say about her quilt:

"What a great color! I bought the green fabric intending to make a wholecloth quilt. When I came across the spiky looking white print I knew I had to change my plans. A little graph paper, a little cutting and a lot of free hand quilting fun and MM2 was born."

Wendy Williams, our 2021 BOM designer, created Pretty Little Pots not as a Block Of the Month kit, but as a Block Of the WEEK kit. "This fun achievable quilt is designed with 52 little blocks, hence the ‘block of the week’ title. The idea is to build up your embroidery skills as you go, like little lessons each week." It's a great quilt to pot your own quilting ideas and let them sprout.
