Which kind of quilter are you? Vote below.

Not spending the whole day in the sewing room? Do you leave your iron plugged in (it's auto-off, after all) OR do you unplug?

I never turn my iron off, I just unplug it.

I use a Laurastar iron (it's AWESOME) and it takes a bit to heat up and fill the steam tank but I always leave it plugged in (turned off when not in use).

I unplug when I'm done for the day. I've had a number of irons quit working and I think it's because the auto-shut off results in some kind of build up in the electrical connections. The light that shows a constant heat setting has been reached will be on but the iron is not heating at all. I'm on my third Panasonic cordless. One of the non working ones I'd set aside to see if my husband wanted to open it up and see what was going on, started working again. go figure.

IRONS!!! I spend many hours during the day piecing challenging quilts. I know-I’m spoiled rotten by a supportive and loving guy who encourages me. And he’s an amazing house husband. That being said I cannot abide an auto shutoff iron. I need a steam iron that gets hot fast and stays that way all day. I do unplug it from the wall receptacle when I leave. I am cautious about using extension cords so not to overload the circuits. All that being said WHERE IN THE WORLD CAN YOU BUY A NEW IRON WITHOUT AUTO SHUTOFF???

I had a fire in my studio, so I unplug and have a timer on the outlet, so if I forget, it will turn off. But, I never forget. It's habit to check it when I leave the room. No more fires for this quilter!

I agree with Kmouse above, last year we had an electrical fire, started in an outlet, so even before that, I never left iron pugged , now I unplug or turn off 'strip' to eliminate any possibilities

My iron is plugged into a power strip that also has a night light plugged into it so that I’m more likely to remember to unplug my iron when I leave my sewing room. Twice in the past 20 years I’ve had issues with an iron, and thankfully I was in the room both times. Once the iron started smoking while it was on, and the other time it was off, but plugged in.

Always unplug. One day mine was on and just as I walked over to the sewing machine it started to spark and smoke. If I hadn't been there the house would have burned down.

I have mine, an old one with no power-off, plugged into a power strip that I turn off.

My iron is older, so it doesn't have the auto-off feature. I just turn it off by the dial. It reminds me if it's on since it makes an interesting clicking noise!
