Joelle's Quilt
Name of Maker: Karen Good
Joelle's Quilt - I made this quilt from a larger pattern and sized it down to fit a baby bed. I had made one similar before this so pretty much know what to do. I added borders to make the quilt a bit larger then used Satin Blanket Binding to finish the quilt.
Ancient Echoes
Name of Maker: Jan Reed
Ancient Echoes - Inspired by a challenge to do something representing another culture, I wanted to capture the disdainful tolerant attitude I'd witnessed in the iguanas found poolside at a Puerto Vallarta resort when dealing with the tourists who constantly followed them around photographing them. They seemed to tap into an awareness that they have been around millenniums. I added background images from the Mayan culture to reflect some of what they might have witnessed. All raw edge applique and reverse applique used on over 250 pieces of batik fabriic. The spines on "Juan's" back are dimensional. Prismacolor pencils and Tsukineko inks used to enhance values.
Something Rather Fishy
Name of Maker: Stephanie Newman
Something Rather Fishy - Queensland Quilters Inc. Challenge 2011- I used the design elements of the mermaid fabric which required minimum 20% visible and added other fabrics to create the fishy arrangement-the jug's handle and spout are the mermaid's tail and fish! Touring for 16 months.
The Secret Life of Ice
Name of Maker: Stephanie Newman
The Secret Life of Ice - Made for the 2010 AP&Q & AQC challenge "Remember", this quilt explores how delicate microscopic Antarctic Foraminifera, Protozoa, Terapods and other small sea creatures live their lives mostly in secret, yet provide valuable scientific data to scientists concerning climate change- and the future isn't looking good. Their message could easily be 'remember there's only one earth'. Juried into Paducah 2011- semi finalist quilt.
Reflections
Name of Maker: Becca LoGiudice
Reflections - I designed Reflections to feature words on tile blocks that are nice to relfect on such as honor, truth, wisdom, peace, etc. I added a tree in the center for my love of trees. Trees adapt to their surroundings which can sometimes be difficult, while becoming more beautiful. People are like trees adapting and changing according to life while hopefully developing beauty of character.

Hearts to Love You Stars to Guide You
Name of Maker: Carrie Rebeca Weader
Hearts to Love You Stars to Guide You - My Grandmother made the patches for this quilt about 1945. They were intended to be my baby quilt. My mother gave me the patches when I turned 40 (1985) along with left over fabric. So I designed and quilted my own baby quilt. It literally was my first quilt in more ways than one. I used the extra fabric for sashing and corner blocks. By that time in my life I had discovered that no matter where I went in life I found hearts to love me and stars to guide so I used those motifs in the blocks and scattered along the paths between the blocks. The fabric was thin to start and it is fading. I have it over the back of a chair in my dinning room where I can enjoy it. I finished the quilt about 1985.
The Canoe Tree
Name of Maker: Lois Bruno
The Canoe Tree - The Canoe Tree is depicted in three panels. The first is as it was when I played there as a child. The second image is as my adult mind imagined how that tree might have grown the way it did. The third panel is what I found when I went back to visit my woods as an adult. I made this before I knew there were fusibles and stabilizers. I scotch taped the sapling to the background and zizaged it fast right through the tape. Then I picked the tape out with tweezers.
