Henry's I Spy Quilt
Name of Maker: Janie Stokes
Henry's I Spy Quilt - I made this quilt for my niece's first child, Henry. I have been collecting train fabrics for some time as my adult son was fascinated with time as a child. I wanted to make my future grandchildren a quilt with trains.
Going Batty
Name of Maker: Janie Stokes
Going Batty - The pattern intrigues me because it is Hawaiian style but it had bats. Before I retired from 35 years of teaching elementary school, one of my favorite units to teach was on bats and I collected bat things. The quilting around the bats says chiroptera (which is the scientific name for bats) and bat sayings. I chose the fabric to look like bats flying over water at night.
Queen Bee
Name of Maker: Janie Stokes
Queen Bee - The original pattern was paper pieced and pieced. I drafted my own smaller block size and pieced all the blocks. I machine quilted hexagons to make it look like a bee hive and free handed the queen bee on top of the "hive." My brothers called me "queenie," because they believed that my parents didn't make me work as hard as they had too and that my father let me get away with things. So I named it Queen Bee.

Sunrise
Name of Maker: Patty Philbrook
Sunrise - Eight years in the making, the foreground fauna design fabric has center cut out to create a window to see through to the hand-dyed sunset fabric and bali mountain scape individually cut and appliqued into place. Embellishments include appliqued beaded flowers and butterflies, birds and bugs.
Falling Leaves
Name of Maker: Patty Philbrook
Falling Leaves - Falling Leaves tumble down on a simple background of crackled black and gold, and black velvet. The leaves are heavily thread-painted with a tight tension setting cause them to curl slightly to resemble real autumn leaves as they begin to dye and fall to the ground. Hung from a leftover curtain rod with leaf detail on the end this is my favorite quilt!
Downhill Skier
Name of Maker: Patty Philbrook
Downhill Skier - Letting the fabric lead me to the quilt, Downhill Skier appears almost ghost-like, catching some air, flying through the snow down the slope. The inset fabric is snow cover trees in blue tones. The large border midnight blue fabric sparkles as smaller border fabric is sunset like in its brief appearance making one think perhaps this skier is squeezing in the last run of the day.
Wine & Music
Name of Maker: Patty Philbrook
Wine & Music - Hearts adorn a black velvet field and a tiny red glass seed bead sits atop each heart's crevice. The piano keyboard fabric came from a neighbor cleaning out her stash, made for the perfect border. The diamond pattern burgundy border fabric is curtain-weight upholstery fabric. Hand-dyed ribbon yarn in undulating colors outlines a wine bottle pouring into a wine glass. This quilt is all about an evening at home with my husband; we listen to piano music and enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fire and talk!
Harvest Quilt
Name of Maker: Patty Philbrook
Harvest Quilt - Folk Art theme Harvest Quilt began with the center panel, white and gray crackled fabric, ironed to freezer paper, then painted with the pumpkins and blackbird scene. Bordering fabrics were selected trying to keep with the harvest feel.

Souvenir PC of First Seven Days of Creation
Name of Maker: Louisa Betts
Souvenir PC of First Seven Days of Creation - This is a "souvenir PC" of the first seven days of Creation. Its format was inspired by the accordian-style souvenir pictorial postcards that I remember from the mid-1900's. Five cards are displayed in order to show the various picture panels in one photo. The Hebrew says, "Let there be light," "and there was light." Couched metallic threads, broderie perse, and charms were used to create the picture and embellish the double-sized panel for days 3-6. With my hands as a model, I used embroidery software to digitize hands at rest for day 7. Both the hands and "Let there be light" glow in the dark. Patches of lined fabric were appliqued to provide the message and address areas. (Superior Threads used: ExtraGlow NiteLite White, Razzle Dazzle, and Polyester Monofilament)
