Yesterdy I quilted feathers in the corners of one memory marked the other and hope to get them done either today or tomorrow. Then all that is left is binding and labels.

Last week I managed to quilt the Tessalating Stars quilt on the Grace Frame. It was a quick quilt to make and not destined for anyone (mind you the dog has her eye on it  ) and it was great to use it as a learning curve tool on the frame. I picked up quite a lot of ideas and do's and don'ts so well worth making just for that.

I have put the borders on a single bed size quilt, I have started a Jenny Rayment BOM which is exciting, I am now signed up with five QU courses ( ) and I'm working my way through Lynn Edwards' Sampler Block Quilt which has a huge chunk of hand work in it. In fact I'm so enjoying handwork I dangerously bought Jinny Beyer's book and am drooling anew.

I have several Christmas projects in the pipe line. I have the fabric for a tree skirt for DD and her partner and I'm wanting to make my son a quillow for his van. He's travelling in Oz at the moment so I was going to use Australian fabric so he would have a memory of his trip. We're off to Australia at the end of October so I can buy the fabric! :D

I've been doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that. On Friday I got two and a half logs sewn on my quilt. Then over the weekend, I got 3/4 of one of my churn dash quilts quilted. I got some more words embroidered. And today I picked fabric for two months of the BOM. I was hoping to get caught up this month, but it might take me through October to get caught up.

I am working on sewing my WONDERFUL ONE FABRIC WONDER ( KAY NICHOLS) QUILT together. I realized today it is going to be too small so I am trying to figure out what to do since I do not have enough fabric to make more boarders for the quilt.

I do have the fabric in another colorway... so I am thinking of funding another border on it using the extra fabric.... I am going to have to think about this when I get the center medallion finished.

I am also working on paper pieced blotto blocks for our guild... I have not paper pieced in many years so I am not sure of what I am doing... So far they look pretty good.

HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVE A GREAT LABOR DAY WEEKEND.

Anna

My sister (Laura) came over for the weekend and had a great time in Lowell Mass. at the quilt museum. They were showcasing quilts made in Massachusetts and we were also able to see the Boott cotton mill

http://www.lowell.com/boott-cotton-mills-museum.php

It was a surprise to see that they actually had some of the looms running. Though they may not be running for long. Their supplier was flooded out during Katrina. Our parking meter was running out and couldn't finish the tour.

I bought a package of 3/4 " octagons and we basted them onto Ricky's stable stuffy. I printed the octagons using inklingo onto the stable stuffy, then we cut them apart for basting. Very easy. I still need to print another sheet to finish the basting, then it will be very easy sewing while watching TV or sitting out on the deck.

Laura also helped me figure out a pattern for the memory quilts and will get them done and out of the way.

Yesterday was Quilt Bee day. I didn't take my usual Friday quilt, but took my Rosary quilt so they could see how much I got done on vacation. I got one word done yesterday but it was 8 letters long.

Well, Kyle has been delivered to school in Machias Maine, and Danny is working his way up the coast.

That means I can now work on the birds. So far I have 1 1/2 sewn on with 3 more to go. So taking a quick break to check my favorite site to see what everyone has been up to these past few days. Now I am off to the sewing room and turn on the IPod. The pitter pattering of rain should get these tops done.

I have two quilt tops just about finished now, one from me playing and the other from QU and so I have finally decided to make up the Grace frame!! What else to do on a Bank Holiday weekend when the rest of England is blocking up the roads!

I've been at it 2 hours already and I'm quite enjoying myself. Had a giggle at the 1/4" x 30mm markings etc but over here we're also used to buying things like 3 meters of 2" x 4" wood. Ahhh metrication. As a school child of the '70's I do confuse myself and often have to ask OH who is an engineer (metric) but a good few years older than me (Imperial) and knows how to spilt them and their value off the top of his head!

Even buying fabric for borders yesterday was a nightmare. I was asking in Imperial and they were working in metric. I was becoming very hot under the collar and confused and ended up buying far more than I needed just to be on the safe side. Lesson learned: - always go prepared with all measurements fully worked out in both sizes!

I am working on a landscape based on a photo taken in Florida of the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. The fabric is all laid down. Now need to add some thread painting, and I think a palm tree, and will be ready for quilting.

Today I finished a QU mini quit homework piece and managed to do quite a few blocks on a quilt top I'm working on and try to figure the borders, well at least start planting ideas.

I have guild sewing tomorrow so will have to find some handwork to take!

Had a workshop in WONDERFUL ONE FABRIC QUILTS with the books author KAY NICHOLS. The workshop was great. I really like the technique and I think my quilt top is beautiful.

Poor Kay did not know what to do with me however since I made the quilt with two colorways of the same fabric. My M-I-L picked out the fabric she wanted for her bedspread ( the fabric was from my stash )and I was only able to get 3 yards of each when I had originally bought the fabric ...not enough to make the quilt in the way Kay described in her book. I ended up improvising but it came out grand. I am so pleased and the technique was so easy and versatile... I hope to make more of these type quilts as soon as I finish this one. I learned a lot in the workshop.

She also showed us how to do a two color binding where the backing side matches the backing fabric and the front binding matches the front fabric. I also learned how to do a knife edge finish using the ladder stitch. I have always wanted to see that method of finishing.

Sewing for the pattern was easy too. I will have the top put together in one session of sewing....

Yesterday I worked with my 9 yr old grandson and helped him make a small quilt for his teddy bear. I did the cutting and the binding and he did the sewing and machine quilting. He made a darling little 9 patch. Lots of fun and memories made.

Today I worked on replacing a backing to a quilt and now I am hand tying it together.
