Flying Geese Blocks for BOM 31 Mar 2009 21:09 #33891

Alex/Sue - Is there any chance we can get the flying geese pattern earlier than November? My quilt needs to be completely finished and ready for a quilt show in mid-February 2010, and since I'm the quilt show chair, I am going to be really busy (busier) in January and up until the show. I'm up to date so far - anxiously awaiting the April patterns, and plan to get those and the sawtooth stars done early so as to be ready for the flying geese. Please let me know if we can talk you into it! Thanks a lot. Sue Glass

Thanks, Vintage! That's exactly right! Of course, you can always piece your backing fabric from several different fabrics, but that's a back of a different color!!

I'm not Margo but if you are using regular yardage 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 should more than cover an 85" square quilt. If you you are using wide backing 3 yds would more than cover it. I am making mine king size so I am going the wide backing way, I really hate sewing backings.... :)

Backing Fabric 11 Jan 2009 13:17 #30895

Ok, Margo, If the 6 1/2 yards is for the background, how much should we buy for the backing? I am planning on using all of my Ricky Tims fabrics that I have been hoarding (and petting) and am about to order my background fabric. Do ya'll have a ball park figure on how much to get for the backing? Thanks! :)

It was Elisabeth that introdused me to the greate quilting guild I now belong to in Bodoe...Oh boy...she is the reason I still have my mental health

The kit is in order and contains 22 yards of beautiful fabric from the shop at The Quilt Show.
I do have my own quilt shop in Norway, but this time I bought them as a nice present to myself on my birthday. I have birthday one of the first days of January. I look forward to receive the fabrics. I`m very ready to start.

Good thought, Margo. I think I'll play a bit tomorrow before I start in earnest.

Gloria, the January directions are for the feathered star in the middle of the quilt. That is where the largest concentration of backgound fabric is going to be. If you think the white might contrast too much, why don't you make up a simple saw-tooth star block with the white as the background with one of your other fabrics to see if you like it before you invest all the time and effort you will spend on a feathered star!
