TOPIC: MARCH BOM

10 Mar 2008 20:52 #15157

Well, I tried a couple of things and didn't like it so I took out the stitching. Fabric paint might work. I have some shiva paintsticks. I'm really afraid of ruining it if I try too much. Veins is one option. I'll keep thinking about it.

I think some of my green on Feb are too light too. So my plan after I've done my 'invisible' machine applique is to experiment with some dark green or at least dark-er green thread to make them pop a little. I thought maybe they could use some VEINS! :P

Nancy, I think the block is delightful! If you're less than pleased with the lighter green, how about some fabric paint??? :)

Thanks Margo. I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll give it a try. Or maybe I could just stitch close to the edge on all those light stems and leaves with a green. Good idea! What would we do without each other??? :P :P :P If it changes it a lot for the better, I'll re-post it.

I love the contrast of the star on the basket, Nancy! When I needed to increase the contrast of the background star on the January and February blocks, I outlined them with a simple stem stitch. Maybe you could try that on one of your stems and see if that gives you the contrast you want?

Well, I've uploaded my March BOM to my profile. As I said there, I wish I had used a darker green for the light stems...I don't think they show up well, :x and too much contrast with the two dark stems. But it's done, and now I can concentrate on some other things until April 1.

Wanda, I don't feel so bad now. I'm just working on January also. Everyone's blocks are looking so wonderful! I love the yellow roses Maggie, after all "there's a yellow rose of Texas" (you may not know that song if you aren't for here) lol

What good eyes you have Margo. I just finished that stem this morning. I still will be able to add it in.

Margo your block looks fabulous.

As mentioned in my blog, my March BOM is finished! Still working with the raw-edge invisible stitch applique. I'm getting better at it all the time. Next up....post it on my profile.

Well, I'm finally nearing completion of preparation of stems and leaves of the March block. I decided to add the "extra" leaf. I am cheating  and making one-piece flowers, I notice that no one else has cheated! (Sue said in the chat that we could "make it our own", so that's what I'm doing with one-piece flowers.) Using Sharon Schamber's technique for machine applique really works, but takes time to prepare the pieces, and the March pieces are dillies! :x I love the block, no matter how much time it takes and as soon as it is finished it will be on my profile. When my daughter was visiting we figured out which would be April and May from the description in the fabric requirements and the titles of the blocks. That's as far as we got.

Margo, Thanks for pointing me here to post that I have completed my March BOM and uploaded it to my profile. I also just posted my January and February blocks in my profile although they were finished in February. It is amazing how many different looks we are achieving from the same pattern just by fabric choices.

I know Lauretta, I would like to sew 18 hours a day and sleep 6, but that's not how it works is it? :D Hope you enjoy your BOM when you do get to start.
