Eileen, I knit. What do you want to know about the garter stitch? It is straight knitting so you have to knit one row, turn over and knit the back. It gives a rough appearance when it is finished. Great for quick projects like throws and blankets of all sizes. I basically knit blankets for Project Linus when I go to guild meetings etc. as I "just can't sit there". Judy in AZ

Ann,
I echo your wishes for everyone and for you, I hope that your tests will give you resolution.

The ortho gave me a shot of cortisone in my right wrist last week and it has helped enormously. The rheumatologist wants me to wear the carpal tunnel splints on both hands at night so the channels stay open.

I'm teaching myself to knit. It's sort of relaxing, except for when the point of the needle pushes against my fingers. Does anyone else knit? I'd like someone to tell me about the garter stitch-it's a little difficult just knitting each row and not purling like I'm used to doing.

where is everyone 19 Dec 2007 22:22 #11246

Everybody must be so busy getting ready for the holidays that there is no time to think about our problems. At least that is the way it has been for me.

I wish everyone of my friends out there that are struggling with an issue that impedes their life or happiness or quilting, a Very Merry Christmas and a New Year with less pain, more answers to your problem and that the Higher Power will give you patience and a cheerful and upbeat attitude. I know for myself those are the things I ask for each day and I ask that for all of you as well as myself.

Quilting and my friends here at TQS have kept me sane this past year while one of my illnesses gets more and more mysterious and at the same time more troublesome. All I can do is put one foot in front of the other each day and journey down the road that is in front of me. Keep me in your thoughts as you are in mine

Quilting with disabilities 06 Dec 2007 17:00 #10955

Hi everyone, sorry I've missed some posts that were directed to me.

Eileen, I haven't started quilting again. This summer I just lost every bit of interest I had in sewing/quilting. Maybe this is the Lord's way to keep me from quilting and hurting even worse. I'm hoping the interest will come back and I can start again. I did make a baby sling a few weeks ago, but it was very simple and quick. My pocketbook that I made a few years ago is tattered and I can't get myself in the mood to make a new one, and I can't find one in stores that I like.

katzzz, I didn't have enough business to have a partner. Maybe, if I get my interest back and get my neck fixed, I can give it another try. Thanks for your helpful advice. I check out this site often, hoping something will create a 'spark' for me, but so far, it hasn't. I've been busy on a yahoo group lately. I made a book of inspirational quotes and that kept me busy for a good while. I had a good deal of back and neck pain during that!! I'm working on another one with just scripture quotes. I can't sell the first one because of copyrights. I contacted several people about using their quotes, but only one replied.

Well, once again, I've written a novel.

Have a great evening, Sharon in TN

I apologize if I came off rude in my last post. My brain is fried with all the information I've been trying to absorb.

Thanks, I just couldn't think what it was   But I don't have DDD, my problem was from an injury at work. So far, I don't have any arthritis. But I'm sure it's down the road-my Mom has it and isn't it hereditary?
I have to stop obsessing about the FM, I'm losing too much time here on the 'puter.

I say Amen to what Snowplow said. If you have swallowing difficulties, get the endoscopy done. No eating 8 hours before the procedure, they give you a shot and you are asleep and when you wake up, it is all over and there is no pain. And you can swallow again without choking. I worried and worried over it because I can remember years ago my mother having it done and she was awake and there was no way I was going to have that done to me. And if you are awake at all through the procedure, they will give you a drug at the end that wipes away the memory. It has been about 2 years for me now, and since it looks like it might happen again but might not because I have no more acid reflux to bring on the scarring and the narrowing of the esophagus. It is embarrassing to be sitting at a restaurant eating and all of a sudden you start choking and have to be excused. So, get it done, it's a piece o' cake!
