Naughty, naughty. (wags finger)

So what was the main colours you used, Maureen? (standing on one leg, whistling tune-lessly  )

That's a nice manageable size Maureen. Gosh, it's so tantalizing. This should be very good for those of us who are desperately impatient. (I mean me of course. :D )

Sounds complicated but I'm sure you will have it sussed.

How big did you make it Maureen? Are we allowed to ask that :D

I don’t think that telling you the size will make any difference to anything. The finished measurements of the quilt is approx. 30 ¼ ins x 26 ½ ins.

Maureen and I were emailing about the shipping overseas. She reminded me that both hers and Rosemary's Hsts took 4 weeks or more to get from here to the USA. I believe we had better luck with mailing the reels from the USA to me using my APO address. (Well one did take 4 weeks as it came by way of SriLanka.) The key mailings that are time sensitive are when Maureen mails to the USA and then the following Christmas when the finished quilt gets mailed back to the UK. We'll try this with Maureen's initially as she will mail it to me and I will mail it to USA. It is best to use priority mail for quickest service.

Other than those two time sensitive mailings, others may chose to mail to me or directly to Maureen. If it comes through me, you must double wrap the quilt. So I won't see it when I take it out of what you mail it in and put it into the mail to Maureen.

Lorna

As Lorna says we are trying to find the fastest and most cost effective way to get quilts back to me. I don’t know about Rosemary’s HST but mine left the UK inside 2 days but sat somewhere in the US for the remainder of the long long time. :( :( I actually made another batch of them (640) to send in place of the lost ones when they arrived at Debbie’s. Maybe that is why I never finished my quilt, I was so sick of half square triangles.

As Lorna says, the quilts will have to be put in a sealed dark bag before it is put into the box to post to her so that she doesn’t see it as it would spoil it for her because she is the last one. You would have to send it to Lorna and then pay her for the container and postage from her to me, so in the end, it might work out cheaper to send directly to me. As long as the weight of the quilt is less than 2 Kg (approx 4.4 lbs) then postage here is not unreasonable. Over 2 Kg it gets quite expensive. We will try and work this out and let you know as soon as we can.

This was posted on 14th September and probably explains it better than I did last night :D :D :D :D
I had a similar problem with my hst's, they went in the first week of March, the hats followed 7 days later. The hats arrived just over a week after posting, the hst's arrived the saturday before the sort - 5 weeks after posting! Considering the hats parcel was larger than the hst's - what the heck was going on! That is why I wanted to carefully keep track of all mailings for the Wot Rott swap, and was prepared to wait for reels - although it got completely ridiclous for Tannes, who eventually sent 2 sets, and both ended up back home without getting to me!

Maureen - How exciting that you are finishing it up and getting it posted!! It will feel so good to have that weight off your shoulders, and I'm sure you look forward to the fun of seeing each new quilt trickle in through the challenge.

And thank you, Lorna, for volunteering to be our shipping point. I'm happy to ship things however you guys find is best. I never ship anything overseas, so I'll use whatever method you guys think is safest.

This is all so exciting!

But an interesting digression Lois, thank you. We don't have high mountains in Ireland either but they can be very spectacular. And if you ever go to the Highlands in Scotland - stunning!

Maureen, I am sure Rosemary will send hers direct to me, I will send it direct to you when I finish mine, and I will send my quilt direct to Wendy. It's usually about 5 days from the UK to here. But I don't know how long it takes to get from here to the UK or Scotland.

Rita, it was the members in the USA that I was talking about. They are all right sending between themselves but coming back to here might be different. It took so long for my HST to arrive in Texas   that the thought of the quilt taking that long scared me so that is why it is going to America via Lorna. :D :D

The UK and you in Ireland are no problem. I suppose it would take the same length of time from you to the UK as it is from the UK to you. The post here is pretty good.

Marilyn, We definitely need to plan to meet sometime, but I don't think winter is the time to do it. There used to be the most wonderful quilt shop in Elko but Joann's came to town and the long time owner decided to close shop. I think she was ready to retire and did not even want to think about the competition. I am sure your dust bunnies (even if they look more like jack rabbits) would not scare me. I have some of the jack rabbit variety of my own. I love the wide open spaces you have out there, but I also love my old worn down mountains back here. I get a little testy when my western friends think our mountains are nothing but a joke. My geologist daughter tells me that in times gone by they were higher than the Himalayas. So they were higher and are much older than anything you have out west. People just ought to have a little respect for their elders. That goes for mountains and people. I am sure our mountains have amazing stories to tell hidden under their wooded slopes. I for one never tire of sitting and listening to what they have to say. I digress. Sorry.

Hmmmm? Elko was it? It really isn't too far...but hard to do a day trip ! :( Indeed there are a couple of good shops
between here and there ! I'd be happy to have you come to surprise me in my sewing room ! Tho it might be you
getting a nasty surprise as I'm a"messy desk" person !! Deep in thread and dust bunnies ! I've never been back East
but have been told that our wide open West can be intimidating ....sage brush and jackrabbits ! We are likely
to have a bit of winter weather coming up...raining here tonight, of course, it's not like what happened with Sandy !

In that part of the USA there is just lots of sage brush and then some mountains. Carrie's former MIL use to say there is nothing out here but "miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles". There is lots of nowhere out there. I doubt if there is a quilt shop between Elko and Marilyn's town, or towns for that matter. There are hardly any towns on the map in that part of the USA. It's an 8 hour drive south to Las Vegas with very few tiny towns in between, 5 hrs west to Reno with only tiny tiny towns and to the east the closest is Salt Lake City. Doesn't look to me like there is a major road straight north to Marilyn's home town. Maybe she and I can visit sometime, but Zachary is a bit young for me to take off with him on my own. His mother teaches at Great Basin College in Elko and she has to go to work. Not this time, but I get out there regularly so maybe Marilyn and I can meet sometime. She told me she's been to Elko. In fact, she said she went there on her honeymoon.

I think I've gotta take a look at a USA map. Idaho and Nevada?

Hmmmm... oh by golly! Yup! There they are just next to each other!

Lois, I think you could do it!
Rent a car and take your grandson on a road trip. Tell your daughter you'll make it educational, if she doesn't want to go along. Calculate the distances between quilt shops along the way! Make sure you document it, so we can hear all about it!
