Thanks everyone. I do like the idea of putting glass on the table. My hubby really liked that yellow flange and wanted me to keep it so I thought and thought on it and finally went to bed thinking about it and then dreamed about it, and in my dream the solution came to me to add the additional flange units but lower. I was skeptical but went with it and really liked how it looked and then I kept looking at the duplicate hsts I had and decided to cut them in half and resew them together and applique them into the border. They are pretty small but the border is small too so it kind of worked out. It was a really fun project.

I found a fabulous back for it and it's being washed now so hopefully next weekend I'll be ready to quilt!

Thanks everyone for such nice comments. I'm done with the changes just a bit ago and really like how it developed into something a little more. I used up some extra hsts and made tiny little units for the border. I think it added a nice new look.

Now getting a nice, straight photo -- well, that's going to take me a little longer to get. Thankfully, I have until January 2012 to accomplish it!

Actually, I'm suggesting that instead of adding four short flange extensions that the four existing flange extensions be removed.

JoJo, I love the quilt and I love it on the table. Shirley's idea about a custom glass top is a good one. I've use that idea so that I am able to use a number of treasured heirloom pieces where everyday life would play havoc with them. I get to see them and enjoy using pieces my mother would have "saved for good". I am with Margo on adding another piece of flange. Great job everyone. I am becoming so eager to see the book, but first I have to figure out how I am going to quilt mine. Lois

Oh, JoJo! I'm lovin' your UFO!!
I agree with you about the flange, though. Maybe another option would be to remove the parts of the flange that extend to the outside edge?
I think that if you just turn the excess back at a 45 degree angle where it crosses the first flange, it might work and wouldn't leave any raw edges.
