"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.

Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.

The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.

AND when you post your photos to Social Media, like Instagram, Facebook, etc., use either of these hash tags so everyone there will be able to find our wonderful work:

Hi, Pemela! I can't wait to see your Hugs and Kisses quilt because I know it has to be so beautiful! I'm hand quilting/machine quilting (don't tell the quilt police!) a quilt I layered several years ago. We'll get all our projects done sooner or later, won't we? :) ellenceleste, I love your batiks. I think that's one of the things I enjoy so much about Edyta Sitar is that she uses both batiks and prints in her quilts.

I've finished my May blocks and am working hard on the 9 patch blocks. I have 7 done and another 10 somewhere in the process. Using starch has greatly improved my accuracy, and using starch on the applique blocks has made them much smoother. I also participated in the HST exchange and have a lovely quilt from it, unfortunately, I can't find it! It must be around somewhere. I do have a photo of it, and will post it to my page here on the quilt show. Maybe some of your blocks are on there? My spreadsheet shows several Barbara's and Beverly's contributed to it.

Hi Beverly, my dear friend, your blocks are beautiful. I am doing raw edge machine applique on my BOM (shocking :  ). I ordered the batting/wadding for the Hugs and Kisses quilt as the top is finished, and I will get it layered and quilted (I make it sound easy don't I Beverly lol). Hope you and yours are all well.
Much love

Thank you Jupergee and Barbara. I have HST leftovers too, and the paper tags that were sewn in to the blocks I received. I treasure them - what a fun experience that was! I have not used the batik strip pieces from the next exchange yet, but they're treasured too. I've loved this site for a long, long time, and apparently so have you!

Looks good, Beverly. I did the HST exchange too, over 700 blocks. Still have a small bag with some leftovers.

For the moment I am caught up with my applique blocks. I am really enjoying making this quilt. I'm working in all that I can of Edyta Sitar fabrics in my stash - mostly from her Jelly Bean collection. I became a fan of hers when TQS aired her show and we did the big HST exchange. Now to move on and begin my nine patch blocks.

I found it difficult to keep up at the beginning of the year as I was involved in a quilt exhibition here in The Netherlands. Now that everything has been stopped for a while, I am all caught up!

Thank you, Chrys.
I am trying different hand applique methods too. Lot of learning going on here. It takes longer, but that is okay.

I am trying to use fabrics in this quilt that I think are 18th century reproduction, but I am not really sure what 18th century fabrics are supposed to look like. I stressed over that at first, but not anymore. Life is too short!

Happy quilting,
Judy

Thank you very much, Judith A. Yes, the applique blocks are also slowly getting done on this end.

Mainly 1800s era reproduction fabrics are being used for this quilt. I've always loved them and have acquired bits and pieces over time. Some of them have been lying in wait for years :)

I've been using different hand applique methods. I hesitate to sound like a commercial, but these two products have been used often for these blocks:
Karen Kay Buckley's circle templates
Quilters Select Print & Piece Fuse Lite for prepping more fiddly pieces with Appliquick tools and a fabric glue stick

Chrys,
I really like your applique blocks. They look great.
If you don't mind, I would like to know a little more about them. What method are you using? What fabric lines are you using?

Mine are slowly getting done. I have 10 applique blocks done so far.
