"Afternoon Delight" was one of Sue Garman's favorite patterns. This wonderfully scrappy quilt is truly a delight to make with its combination of simple appliqué and Double Nine-Patch blocks and modified Shoo Fly blocks. Each month you will work on pieced and appliquéd blocks, and in the final month, you will assemble the blocks and add the outer border. The finished quilt measures approximately 86 1/2" inches square.

Let's use this Topic "Afernoon Delight Show and Tell" as a place to show off your beautiful blocks. That way, you know where to come to see what everyone is doing.

The topics that apply to each month are a good place to ask questions or make suggestions for each block.

May applique blocks are done. When Barbara Black said that Sue Garman liked

it when people added their own touch to
her patterns. I immediately thought, time to put a little Helen flavor to the blocks. Had a great time modifying the applique
this month. I put some of my double nine patch with this months applique to show the look I am going for. Trying to get
a secondary design by putting all blocks horizontal rather than on point. Having fun. HelenW

Changed out the block 19 and traced a flower from a quilt pattern that looked like it was somewhat similar and put a different leaf on it. Taking the advice of Barbara Black and doing some substituting since it was so similar to block 18. HelenW

Whew! I finally finished my April blocks and one extra Shoo Fly -- only one day late. I had trouble with Block 15, mostly because it sat for a long time after I marked it for needle turn and started stitching. The chalk pencil was just really hard to see. I'm also not thrilled with the "berries" on my wreath block. I can always redo them later if I want to do so. For now, I'm moving on to May.

I’m going with machine applique because I have way too many hand projects going right now. I’ve also made about a half-gazillion 9-patches and still have another half-gazillion to go! They’re all cut and I’m sewing them together as leaders and enders so they’re really going pretty quickly.
