Peg (Pegjo) and Wendy (gigiWendy) - i love your blocks and looking at your colour choices, I realized I was really missing the effect of the halos (I see two!). You both have nailed it so well, that now I am going to start over and do a different set. I was so concentrating on the getting the stitching right, I didn't notice that my colours were too similar in value. So nice to be able to learn from each other as we go. I am new to quilting - having taken it up in the last year since retiring. Thanks!

Mine came out the same size as yours and my printer settings were correct. I am an experienced paper piecer, too. Finagling the seams between the sections could work, I guess, but you have to match up all the points between the sections first and foremost so there is not a lot of wiggle room. I am not stressing about it. I can oversize the setting triangles some or adjust the small borders to get the correct size in future months. I made the 2009 BOM and had similar adjustments. In the end it came out fine.

If you look at the pictures provided in Month One there should be pics of the layout. Yes some are mirror image. Just make sure when you sew the print on the paper is on top. Good luck.

Hello, I just started the first month block today. I have done lots of paper piecing but can't seem to figure out how to lay out the paper pieced. Are these pieces mirror images? Please help!!!!,

Oops! I missed out one white triangle near the middle, so a little unpicking and resewing required! I had fun sewing this and it finished a perfect 16 and a half inches...so irritated at my stupidity.

So how do you know that your paper piecing templates are incorrect before you actually make the block if you have used the 1 inch gauge to check for size?

I had the exact same problem. Fixed it by printing them at 101%. My test block on page 23 printed out at 1". Like you, just have to remember to do that each time.

I really like your center fabric. The yellow and purple add a wonderful contrast. Very pretty block.

Beautiful! I love that you are incorporating your Mom's artwork into your quilt - that will make it even more special to you.
