I'm another quilter whose block is 16" unfinished. I think some of my seams were a tiny bit too wide. Quite the learning experience. I don't have the time to make another and am wondering if adding a wider border in February will work or will I get myself into trouble trying to figure out what the size of next month should be.Is it better to add a small border now and end up with a finished Jan piece that is 16.5. Seems like a smarter way to go rather than adding a wider piece. What do you think?

Ptbograndma, I will take your advice and leave the block as it is. I'm really pleased with how the block has turned out, with the exception of the missing 1/4".
Best Wishes Pam (in Scotland)

Pamela, I would suggest that you are close enough without unpicking for a quarter of an inch. You can easily work that into the next sections to come. I was meticulous, as you were and mine is just a little more that sixteen and a quarter, but as long as I have enough room to get the star points sharp, it will all work out.

I have finished my first block and it finished at 16 1/4". I have limited experience at paper piecing so I was pleased that the block was actually near the size it should be. I think I may do some unpicking and resew to try and make the block 16 1/2". Everyone's blocks are beautiful.
Warm wishes - Pam (in Scotland)

Thanks for the reply. I realize now the parallelogram is the star point, and not supposed to be red! (I got the kit this time....) Nice to know there is a place to go with questions!

I had the same issue. I just used scrap strips and covered the area. It works out in the end when the blocks are pieced into the complete block.

OK, I have a problem and I am so glad you all are here! I am just starting my Halo block. Printed it out (but no, haven't checked it for accuracy, but after reading the thread, certainly will) but right on Unit 1 I have a problem. I went to add Fabric 2 (red) to Fabric 1 (white) and the Fabric 2 shape is a parallelogram, not a half square triangle, and it's the same in Unit's 6, 7 and 12, the other corners of the block. The red fabric they had us precut is a triangle that won't cover that shape, and it looks to me, from the pictures of the block, that it's supposed to be a HST. Did a miss a revision somewhere? Help!

I decided to do the one. Was glad it was piecing instead of appliqué. Not so sure about that now

Well i just finished my block. What an experience. I have become personally acquainted with my seam ripper.

I attached several of the pieces together backwards as I tried to put the block together in order 1,2,3 etc. Does not work.

I found it easier to do the blocks in sets like they are latest out in the PDF. But also you need to see the short seams first. And it seems to come together.

It is not perfect. But it is my first time paper piecing and it had been a long long time since piecing a quilt. I usual do wholecloth. But i had to make this one.

All the blocks I have seen are wonderful. Love some of the color combinations.

My focus fabric arrived over the weekend, so I washed it. However, after reading about everyone else's, how it's not supposed to stand out too much, I'm wondering if I can use it. Let me know, okay?
