Take a look at many of the different collars that Ruth Bader Ginsburg wore on the bench over the years and the stories behind each one.

From Time.com:

"Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an American icon. The late Justice, who died on September 18, 2020 at the age of 87, was only the second woman to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court, and a trailblazing feminist who enshrined equal protections for women into the law. Over her 27 years on the nation’s highest court, Ginsburg also became a fashion pioneer, bringing her unique style to the staid judges’ robes and subtly encoding meaning in her dress through an ever-growing collection of collars often given to her by colleagues and admirers."

Escapade is a quilt by TQS favorite, and 2009 TQS Legend, Libby Lehman. It incorporates Libby's technique of Sheer Ribbon Illusion which creates an appearance of translucence on the surface of the quilt. Escapade is now in the collection of the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY.

See The Full Quilt Here.

Watch Libby in Show 2713: Quilt Legends Masterclass and in her own Legends turn in Show 513: TQS Quilting Legend 2009.

TQS continues its feature of quilts exhibited in 2020 at QuiltCon as part of The Quilts of Victoria Findlay Wolfe exhibit. The exhibit is described as:

"Purposeful play is a deliberate free-form practice with one goal in mind: to ultimately improve the outcome of the finished product while capturing a thought, emotion, or technique. Always fascinated by color, pattern, and quilters who came before us, Victoria Findlay Wolfe found her life's true joy in exploring her grandmother's quiltmaking as a starting point.

Her diverse and exciting body of work stirs quilters worldwide to dig deeper, take risks, and experiment with fabric. This retrospective exhibit features a selection of Findlay Wolfe's inspiring quilts and the stories behind them."

Please enjoy Victoria's fourteenth quilt from the exhibition.

When Cindy Seitz-Krug created Alternative Grids she had two goals in mind: "To use a block pattern with large enough pieces to display my pretty polka-dot fabrics" and for the quilt to have "enough negative space in each block to exhibit the many grid-based quilting designs from my book and my weekly YouTube tutorials." She accomplished both as her quilt won Best Use of Negative Space Modern at PIQF 2019. With beautiful machine piecing and machine appliqué, Cindy has created a wonderful pattern that ebbs and flows throughout the quilt while still tying the whole thing together.

Alternative Grids by Cindy Seitz-Krug of Overgaard, Arizona won Best Use of Negative Space Modern at the Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2019.

Linda Steele designed a crazy quilt with a Christmas theme. She made the ornament blocks as part of the Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2012, and in 2013 made the panel to go on top. Christmas Crazy was exhibited at IQF Houston 2013.

Now they are asking the public to select the newest "Color of the Year."  After months of research and testing they have narrowed it down to 3 selections. Come on Quilters, let's help them get it right this time. Send this to your friends and your guild members. Let's stack the results in our favor.

Here are the choices, Vote below and you'll see an early holiday surprise...maybe just not this holiday!

Here is a wonderful quilt that reflects teamwork and the spirit of Christmas. We were going through past pictures and found this quilt made by Linda Neal. She took the pattern Baltimore Christmas by Pearl Pereira and made some fun additions. The quilt was amazingly quilted by Jackie Brown. The border snowman design and the lace on the edges add to an already winning quilt pattern.

BUT Capt'n John had to laugh at the necklaces on the reindeer.

We continue our selection of quilts exhibited in 2019 at the Houston International Quilt Festival as part of their 45th Anniversary, the Sapphire Anniversary. The Sapphire Celebration exhibit is described as:

"Quilters have long used the color blue to symbolize trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Sapphire is also the chosen gem to celebrate 45th anniversaries—which International Quilt Festival is doing this year (2019)! These new and antique blue and white quilts will be suspended from the ceiling in a spectacular and unforgettable display."

To be a part of the exhibit, quilts had to fit the following criteria:

  • Entries may be Traditional, Modern or Art.
  • Entries must have been made between 1974 and 2019.
  • The minimum size is 50” x 50”

Please enjoy the forty-fifth quilt from the exhibition by Nancy Nelson-Kremer.
