If you live on the West Coast and can't get to Washington D.C. to see the Behind the Scenes Lace/Quilt Tours mentioned in the January 19th Newsletter, maybe you can visit the Lace Museum and Guild in Sunnyvale, California.

Their mission is to preserve lace and the art of lace making, to exhibit lace and its historical use, and to offer instruction in all facets of lace making. The museum is a non-profit organization and is one of two museums in the United States devoted solely to its art. The Lace Museum provides on-going lace making classes and is staffed entirely by volunteers.

A new exhibit, "Night and Day - Lacey Lingerie and Sleepwear from 1860-1950" will be installed January 23, 2010. The exhibit will feature petticoats, hoops, corsets, corset covers, slips, night wear, bed jackets, teddies and more.

Admission is free.

and so is the greater population of Livermore. Kids, dogs, adults and what's going on here? I think they are preparing for a semester at Chico State University - what do you think?

Is your commute boring?   Well, not in Belgium.  Take a look at what happened at the Central Station of Antwerp. Two hundred dancers put this together with just two rehearsals of "Do Re Mi."  They were promoting the search for someone to play the lead role in the musical "The Sound of Music" for Belgian television. If you are looking for quilt inspiration, take a look at the floor of the station.

The world has watched in horror at the events that have unfolded in Haiti over the past 10 days. Our hearts go out to those who are experiencing suffering and loss. TQS has received queries about what our community can do. The big question is, "What can we do?"

The directors of ARJJ have had several discussions to determine the best course of action. We had to face the reality that we are not in the best position to implement and manage a relief project. One suggestion was to collect quilts and send them. But right now, what is needed for relief in Haiti is money. A quilt collection effort would presently lead to crates sitting at the airport taking up space for much needed supplies. By giving money, the organizations who are there actually meeting the needs of the people can more wisely obtain the most necessary items. If covers are needed, they can get them. We know quilts are beautiful and comforting, but in a topical country, they may not be the most practical item - especially right now.

We also feel that the money should go quickly and directly to reputable relief organizations. We encourage you to send money now - directly to reputable organizations. We would very much appreciate your comment telling us the organization you give to - and why. Your post will provide a much-needed reference for those seeking a place to give knowing it is being directed to those in need and not being misdirected. No need to state how much you give - just give - and tell us to what organization you gave to.

Quilters have many ways to express their feelings and creativity.  This was very evident in the parking lot of the Ontario Convention Center during the Road to California quilt show this January. TQS wants to see what gets your motor running.

Want to win a TQS goodie bag?  Well, we want to give you the opportunity to share your "quilty" license plate for all to enjoy.  Submit your image in Show and Tell by Tuesday, February 2, 2010.  The winning plate will be selected by ARJJ and announced in the Weekend Fun Newsletter February 5, 2010.

Annette, Gail and Helen have done it again with their Best of Show win at the Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase.  Many of you watched when Annette Hendricks (USA), Gail Thomas (Canada), and Helen Godden (Australia) began working on this quilt here at Tims Art Quilt Studio in La Veta.  And in 2008 you watched The Quilt Show.com and You, it's members, present "The World of Beauty Award" at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX.

We were very lucky to have them work on their quilt at Ricky's studio in La Veta. To watch go to "Articles" and scroll down to June 29, 2008 or just click here.
