It's almost that time of the year, and TQS is gearing up for a great time at the International Quilt Festival in Houston later this month! We will be there with lots of fun and excitement (as usual) in booth 627/629, and--of course--we want to meet all our members who are attending the show.

Speaking of fun, don't forget to drop by every day at 1 p.m. for the TQS member Meet and Greet. It's a great way to catch up, as well as get to know your online quilting buddies...AND, because it was such a huge hit last year, we're thrilled to let you know that TQS guest artists (past AND future) will be in the booth sharing their work and chatting. It's a great opportunity to get a sneak peek at what we have coming up on TQS in future episodes. So, c'mon by and see us. We promise you'll be pleased.

What began with a sketch of a woman surrounded by a garden of roses to showcase the beautiful hand-dyed velvets created by a friend, transformed into Persephone of Greek mythology. As a young maiden, Persephone, the daughter of Zeus, was snatched away by Hades, god of the underworld. she was torn between the love of two worlds, so it was decided that for six months of every year (spring and summer) she would be allowed to return to the celestial world.

Join us on this multi-part journey in the creation of a magnificent quilt designed and created by award winning quilt artist Annette M.Hendricks (Three Sisters).  From sketch to completion, Annette shares her thoughts, tools and techniques we think you will find fascinating.  The Solace of Persephone will hang in the People, Portraits & Figures gallery at the upcoming Houston Quilt Festival.

Over the next few weeks we will share the progression of this, her most recent work.   Click here for Part 1 of the journey.

The Bible Scenes quilt was made by a member of the Drake Family around 1900.  It is 71" x 76" and is in the Collection of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia.  The two scenes depicted are "Adam and Eve," and "The Crucifixion."  Some of the symbolism in the quilt is not clear.  The quilt is made of cotton, hand appliqued, pieced, and quilted with feed sacks on the back.  It is difficult to know who made the quilt as census records for African-Americans in the South were not officially recorded at the time.

If you are missing pieces, move the menu on the upper left.  Also, move the entire almost completed puzzle to see if pieces are underneath. Let us know if this solves it for you.

BibleScenes1 - 90 pieces non-rotating

Sometimes it's not about the quilting, but it has to be shared. While these advertisements seem hilarious now, it's a little bit scary to think that these are some of the images that shaped our youth. See if you remember any of these. We've come a long, long, way!

Here's a look at the first day of the Pacific International Quilt Festival in Santa Clara, California, 2009. Let's see if this doesn't get your juices flowing in anticipation of this year's show. It will once again be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA,  The dates are October 14-17, 2010.  Over $20,000 is awarded in cash and prizes.  There will be over 800 quilts and wearables and I have it on good authority that TQS is well represented.

Little did I know that in reality Pam Kitty Morning had my back all along. She used the Red Fabric to make me a present.  I am busy decorating the Nursery for the GO! Baby and I simply LOVE the adorable bag you made! Once delivered, do you think our GO! Babies can set up a play date?
