What began with a sketch of a woman surrounded by a garden of roses to showcase the beautiful hand-dyed velvets created by a friend, transformed into Persephone of Greek mythology. As a young maiden, Persephone, the daughter of Zeus, was snatched away by Hades, god of the underworld. she was torn between the love of two worlds, so it was decided that for six months of every year (spring and summer) she would be allowed to return to the celestial world. Join us on this multi-part journey in the creation of a magnificent quilt designed and created by award winning quilt artist Annette M.Hendricks (Three Sisters). From sketch to completion, Annette shares her thoughts, tools and techniques we think you will find fascinating. The Solace of Persephone will hang in the People, Portraits & Figures gallery at the upcoming Houston Quilt Festival. Over the next few weeks we will share the progression of this, her most recent work. Click here for Part 1 of the journey. |
