Michelle Bencsko was inspired by Heather Grant's MQC lecture on alternate gridwork. She was excited about the principle of "breaking the grid" in her quilt design. She managed to do that quite well in her quilt Off the Grid, and we actually wondered how she pieced it. Take a look at the detail and try and figure it out.

Off the Grid was exhibited at QuiltCon 2016.

I had the pleasure last week of being a guest speaker at the Mountain Meadow Quilt Guild...the topic...My Quilting Life (you can check out Quilt Roadies for my quilts). But, here's the thing...I may have been the guest speaker, but I was wowed by the show 'n tell! Plus, I actually saw something I have never seen before! Doilies...yeah you heard me, doilies! But, not what you might remember from grandma's house.

Sue Schimke taught herself to make doilies by using this book...

And then, she incorporated the doily making with her quilting! Aren't they amazing! I continue to be amazed by quilters and their ability to up the bar.

I was so impressed with the Mountain Meadow Quilt Guild...they have a large membership in a small community. They are supportive of each other and also are involved in philanthropic endeavors. Once a year they have a wonderful Quilt Show in August that I enjoy! I hope you enjoy a glimpse of their show 'n tell and consider visiting their quilt show in Sunriver, Oregon!

Masami Yoshihara made this stunning appliqué quilt, Happy, to express the happiness she feels when Spring arrives. She pulled out all the stops by hand piecing, appliquéing, beading, embroidering and "trapunto-ing" (is that a word). It's a beautiful quilt and makes us Happy as well.

Happy was part of the Appliqué Large exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.
