With it being October, we thought we would spook things up a bit. Claudia Barner's Raven was "inspired by a PBS special about the communication and problem-solving skills of ravens." With machine piecinghandmachine, and fused appliqué, and some good old hand embellishment, this quilt definitely shows why you don't want to mess with a raven.

Raven by Claudia Barner of Mesa, Arizona was featured in the Innovative Appliqué category at Houston 2017.

Ravens are my totem so to speak. Having viewed the program on them, I agree it is a great reflection of their complexity. Magnificent.

My granddaughter's name is Raven, and when she was younger one of our favorite books to read is The Raven Steals the Light - a Haida legend. The Northwest Coast native tribes have great legends.

The raven with the music wing - his facial expression looks so real I can almost hear him speaking.

Don't like ravens or spooky or orange, but this is a fabulous quilt, indeed! So much detail and mixing of textures by mixing fabrics. Very impressive.

Subtle and effective interplay of color, value & texture. Are the ravens your own pattern? Love the music sheet wing and the ball perch in the last image. Dreamy.
