Just when you think you've seen every way you can finish a binding, another technique comes along. Join the gals from Shabby Fabrics as they show you their "Magic" binding technique.
When you're ready to leave the 1/4 inch space, followed by joining the pieces at the "t" crossover, you didn't explain how you arrived at the "t" crossover place where you decided to join them when you picked them up.
GREAT!!! a few new tips and yes the black was difficult STILL the process is well worth trying. We can all do a little practice (it does make perfect). THANKS Again!
You have to make your initial 45-degree cut in the right direction, though, or this won't work. You'll end up with your final join angling in the opposite direction of all the other joins.
Great technique! The two things I hadn't seen before were trimming the 3/8" off the point and leaving the 1/4" space. I learned to put the two folded ends meeting in the middle and usually had to redo it.
Also didn't know about steaming in the creases! I think I'll be more successful with this from now on.
I agree the choice of black binding made it very difficult to see what was being done at the matching the creases part of the method. For someone who was not at all familiar with the technique it would certainly be confusing.
just used this technique. i got it twisted first time but then realised you have to have the quilt edge nearest to you. it has worked well. I did the 3/8" as well - worked better than anything i i tried previously. thanks for posting this
This is a great technique. Yes, I have used it but it seems like every time you watch a demo you can pickup another tip to improve your skills. Liked the tips of cutting off 3/8s inch from the tips and the fact that if your ruler is parallel to edge of quilt you are making final mark for sewing strips together in correct direction. Thanks.
I did bookmark this page to try to follow it later, or learn it, the black lost me after the quarter inch part. I know this will be great, but will have to teach it to myself. A focus group would have been good to pass this video through before releasing it. Great trick though, and thank you for sharing it.
