Great technique! The two things I hadn't seen before were trimming the 3/8" off the point and leaving the 1/4" space. I learned to put the two folded ends meeting in the middle and usually had to redo it. Also didn't know about steaming in the creases! I think I'll be more successful with this from now on. I agree the choice of black binding made it very difficult to see what was being done at the matching the creases part of the method. For someone who was not at all familiar with the technique it would certainly be confusing.

just used this technique. i got it twisted first time but then realised you have to have the quilt edge nearest to you. it has worked well. I did the 3/8" as well - worked better than anything i i tried previously. thanks for posting this

This is a great technique. Yes, I have used it but it seems like every time you watch a demo you can pickup another tip to improve your skills. Liked the tips of cutting off 3/8s inch from the tips and the fact that if your ruler is parallel to edge of quilt you are making final mark for sewing strips together in correct direction. Thanks.

I did bookmark this page to try to follow it later, or learn it, the black lost me after the quarter inch part. Great trick though, and thank you for sharing it.

I didn’t have trouble with the black fabric as this is ALMOST the way I do my bindings. The difference is the quarter inch gap. I’ll use this from now on! Also, I’ve never seen the trick with trimming 3/8 off the corner before sewing strips together. I do have to agree that if I wasn’t familiar with the basic method, black fabric wouldn’t have been a good choice.

No question it’s a great method, but using the black to demonstrate wasn’t the greatest idea. After pressing the 1/4” gap, the next step of matching something up and drawing the 1/4” seamline was totally lost to me. What actually happens at this point?
