Astronaut Karen Nyberg, who quilts in her spare time, made a quilt block aboard the International Space Station. Here she talks about some of the issues she faced putting the block together. Can you imagine trying to thread a needle?

Karen, I watch the ISS pass over me every chance I get and my app is one of my most used. But, now, holy cow, the smile on my face as you pass over will be bigger than ever now that I know you are sewing onboard. Thanks so much for expanding this great art passion of ours.

WOW! Karen Nyberg is my new greatest hero! I love her block, too. I think her unique story will go down in quilt history, for sure.

Amazing! Now I know what excuse to use when my seams don't match up...I did it in space!
Really though, she did a bang up job on that block!

This is Fabulous! Reminds me of Chris Hadfield singing to us from ISS. Love this demo, maybe we can share it at Quilt Canada which starts tomorrow. Thanks to Karen for taking her quilting into space!!! Sure is easier on earth, who would have thought of that!!!

And we think we face technical challenges here on earth! What a wonderful endeavor: can't wait to see the finished Quilt. So impressed by Karen's achievements, both scientific and quilting!

She finished a block in space! That was just fascinating hearing about Karen's "intro to space" quilt lesson.

Ha ha. When I saw the title of the story I thought I was going to see a video of quilting background space with fill stitches. Never expected to see actual quilting in outer space! What a great video and a great project. Will look forward to seeing the quilt. Thanks for the inspiration.
