Yoshimi Suzuki created the award-winning quilt "Happy Rose," 82" x 82", using hand appliqué, trapunto, and hand quilting. The quilt was awarded 2nd place in the Hand Quilting category at Paducah 2017. The color mix in the flowers, the lattice work that makes it all look like a dream, and the hand quilting is beautifully done. BUT it only took second. 1st Place will be shown on Sunday.

The use of gradient background fabric totally MAKES this quilt! The applique design is wonderful. In my humble opinion this one should have won First Place!

Wow, 3rd place was stunning, this is fantastic. The quilters are both Japanese. It looks like the desire to do beautiful and appreciation of handwork has been exported to Japan! I wonder how long these quilts took to make? It will be interesting to see if first place is also Japanese!

The time and effort put into such a masterpiece and it did not make first place! She must be pleased and proud of her accomplishment and she should be. Awesome! thanks for showing it to us.

Hard to believe all those little squares, circles, and lines are all hand-quilted so perfectly in both 2nd and 3rd place. Really?
Absolutely gorgeous quilts.

Another gorgeous quilt! Doesn't seem possible that this one only received a second place. The competition must have been fierce! I only dream of creating something this elegant and beautiful.
