Toyoko Nakajima, of Kiryu, Gunma, Japan created this quilt (78" x 79") with -Hand Quilting, Hand Appliqué, Applipiecing, Hand Embroidery & Trapunto. (And a good eye for color.) It received 3rd place in the Hand Quilted Category. We love everything about this quilt, the color gradations, the setting, the intertwining of the stems and the beautiful hand quilting. Don't you?

Keep watching the newsletter. 2nd Place is in Friday's newsletter and 1st Place will be in Sunday's newsletter.

It looks to me as if the 2nd and 3rd place quilts were hand-quilted on a machine-quilted background. Is that possible, or is the background also hand-quilted? Looks too perfect to me. If so, I can do that too--Not!
Kudos for the beautiful hand-quilted design.

OK - the quilting is great. But I really love the design. The celtic touches are perfect. Did she spray paint the background? Gorgeous quilt.

I find that quilting has become so high tech that it is so refreshing to see a quilt that is hand quilted. I believe that quilting has lost some of it's appeal with painting, photographs, and computers now been used. Can we now go back to using a needle and thread and have a separate category for all others,?? Quilting should mean "hands on" , .
