Fujiwara Junko took first place in the Hand Quilting category at Paducah with the 78" x 78" quilt "Fantastic." The design source is The Baltimore Album Quilt Tradition by Keiko Miyauchi. It uses hand appliqué, hand embroidery, trapunto, and hand quilting. This category (like all of them we suppose) was a very hard choice for the placement of the award-winning quilts. Click below to see the 2nd Place and 3rd Place quilts if you missed them.

Все работы великолепны! Каждая могла бы быть на 1-м месте.

Just fantastic - please could we have one of them on the Quilt Show - so much talent that could be shared to help us try to achieve their perfection.

Am lost for words - exquisite- could look at first place all the time, being a traditional hand quilter of many years! although all 3 winning quilts were brilliant.

Wow! the amount of quilting on all three is amazing. All that straight line hand quilting has to be so hard to keep perfect (from someone who has a hard time drawing a straight line). Add a bit of pattern to frame the applique, but not so much as to overpower the applique and they are all perfectly done.

I love all 3, and I wonder...how did applique become so well-done in the Japanese quilt culture? How do they execute it so exquisitely?

They all are extremely well executed. Personally, I love 3rd place. Would like to know where they find the background fabric that gets darker toward the edges, or is it 4 mitered pieces that make up the foundation for the fantastic applique?

They are all absolutely amazing. I agree with the others, Choosing between the three quilts had to be difficult. They are all so beautiful. Congratulations to all the winners in the show!

How beautiful these quilts are. Just remember all you ladies are talented in different ways so lets get sewing
and enjoy. We have these wonderful shows to encourage us.

They are all jaw-droppingly beautiful, but my personal favorite is the 3rd place quilt. :-)
