Which kind of quilter are you? Vote below.

How do you quilt your quilt, or for that matter, add embellishments or binding? Have you built up a callous on your finger? ORdo you use a thimble?

I have allergies to metals so I’ve been using Leather thimbles for a very long time! Love Them!! They let my skin breath so no slipping.

I know many who use a thimble. For some reason, not that I haven't given it a shot! I can't use a thimble. I hand quilt, I embroidery a lot. I have developed my own style. I never have sore fingers. Anymore. Kudo's to those who use them, my hat is off. I tried for years, always losing it or my nails wouldn't let it go down on my finger. Just a hassle, I didn't need.

It depends on what I'm working on. Also I have a hard time finding one small enough. I inherited my mother's hands...wish I had inherited her precision too.

Hi to COgirl from another CO quilter. If you can find it, Georgia Bonesteel has a great episode about thimbles. She talks about the different types, how to use them, and interviews an amazing thimble maker.

I must have half a dozen thimbles, and none seems to be just right for the job. I have used the kind with the ridge on the tip, one each hand. What I have given up and use, esp. when hand piecing, is several layers of paper tape wrapped around my finger, and then pull off when it gets wet or too much. Simple enough, and I just keep a roll with my hand sewing supplies.

I have worn out three or four silver thimbles. Many years ago, I found a thimble that someone was making in their garage (I think) and it was guaranteed for life. I even wore out three of them.

Use a thimble if I am hand quilting, but rarely use one for binding or appliqué.

I want to use one but don't know how. Do I see a class in the future?

I never use a thimble because I can not find one large enough to fit my finger. I actually use my nails to quilt.
