I know many who use a thimble. For some reason, not that I haven't given it a shot! I can't use a thimble. I hand quilt, I embroidery a lot. I have developed my own style. I never have sore fingers. Anymore. Kudo's to those who use them, my hat is off. I tried for years, always losing it or my nails wouldn't let it go down on my finger. Just a hassle, I didn't need.

I must have half a dozen thimbles, and none seems to be just right for the job. I have used the kind with the ridge on the tip, one each hand. What I have given up and use, esp. when hand piecing, is several layers of paper tape wrapped around my finger, and then pull off when it gets wet or too much. Simple enough, and I just keep a roll with my hand sewing supplies.
