Since Alex is all about the American Quilt League for the World Series Quilt Challenge, Ricky thinks the National Quilt League needs a little love too. Ricky's team has a great group of ladies, including one of his many quilting friends, Caryl Bryer Fallert; and they've also donated their beautiful quilts to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative for the World Series Quilt Challenge Auction going on now through November 10.
You can bid on Caryl's stunning quilt and own a little bit of history from one of quilting's master artists. And don't worry, if you can't affort to bid on a quilt, you can root for any member of the World Series Quilt Challenge. ROOT for YOUR FAVORITES here. You only need $1 to ROOT and help stamp out this horrible disease.
Caryl's Quilt - Feather Flower #2 - This quilt is the second in a series of original, abstract, floral forms that borrow design elements from my "Feather Study" series of quilts. All of the "solid" fabrics are from my "Gradations" collection for Benartex, and the green print is from my "Multi-Tye-Dye" collection for Benartex.

Margo was surprised last night at a dinner held in Houston with all her TQS friends. She had no idea that they had a secret. That secret was revealed last night when Margo was presented with a beautiful flower block quilt top made by her friends. Margo does so much and they just wanted to thank her for all she does. There were 43 different blocks. Margo was overwhelmed. She was still a bit stunned today when we got her to pose in front of her beautiful new quilt. More of the story will be revealed soon.
On November 1, the online quilt auction for the World Series Quilt Challenge began. The auction will conclude November 10 so you still have time to bid. Each quilt is a 16" x 16" masterpiece created by some heavy hitters in the quilting world.
The team whose quilts raise the most money will be declared the Champions. Additionally, an MVP award will go the individual player whose quilt earns the most money. Quilts will be available for viewing at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, November 3-7.
For more information on the auction, click here. To root for your favorite player, click here. To view the quilts, click here.
Look who stopped by the booth. It's an international gathering of members of The Quilt Show. Stop by the booth around 1pm and you never know who you might meet. Looks to me like they're having a great time.
You just never know when something interesting is going to show up in Houston. TQS Member, KarlynBue, stopped by the booth this afternoon, and take a look at her necklace. It's truly a New Day!
P.S. Karlyn took a ribbon in Houston with her quilt, Montana Tigers!
It's time to show more team spirit for the World Series Quilt Challenge Auction. Ricky already shared his friend Caryl's lovely quilt, but how about these two beauties from his National Quilt League teammates, Judy Mathieson and Mary Sorensen?
You can bid on Judy's quilt, Scarlet and Indigo by clicking here. It is a small version of a portion of her award-winning quilt, Cinnabar and Indigo. You could own a lovely Mariner's compass by a master of the craft.
Or, You can bid on Mary's lovely applique beauty, Late Bloomer, by clicking here. The beauty of her applique is beyond belief.
If you'd like to ROOT for your favorite team member, click here. Remember it only takes $1 to root for a player and it could be the $1 that discovers the cure. GO TEAM!
Just who is calling Ricky a Wayhoo from Texas? Texas is a wonderful state which will very shortly be hosting the International Quilt Festival in Houston. The International Quilt Festival is home to the World Series Quilt Challenge, which will be in full swing. In fact, the quilt auction has already begin online and you can bid on fabulous quilts by some very high-falutin' quilters.
The money from this auction will go to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative which is a national, grassroots charity whose mission is to raise awareness and fund research for Alzheimer's.
If you'd like to participate, but that beautiful quilt is out of your range, for just $1 you can click here to ROOT FOR RICKY and have him take home the MVP spot. Currently Ricky is in the lead, but on his tail is last year's MVP, Hollis Chatelain. We can't allow a repeat, designated hitter, to claim the MVP this year, so give up that extra fat quarter and take a moment to ROOT FOR RICKY. Let's go to bat for the AAQI!
Tangled by Hollis Chatelain.
Week One of the "New from Old" auction is hours away from completion. If you've got your heart set on one of the little beauties in this group (Like Patricia Hobb's gorgeous appliqued and embroidered piece below) then remember to put in your final bids before 9pm Eastern tonight.
Just head over to Ebay and enter Alliance for American Quilts in the search box. This will show you all of the quilts currently up for auction until the deadline tonight. You'll notice a few TQS names in the bunch.
It's time to get serious and Root for Ricky. We want Ricky (an all-star on the National Quilt League) to be MVP of the World Series Quilt Challenge for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative and we don't think a young upstart like Sue Nickels should stand in his way. While a perfectly nice woman (with an amazing knack for machine quilting) Sue has had more than her share of awards (Best of Show - Birmingham, Best of Show AQS, IQA Master Award, AQS Machine Workmanship Award...) and her quilt, Tiny Tea at Tenby, lacks the color of Ricky's Rhapsody for Remembering.
So get on it TQS members and click here to Root for Ricky and the National Quilt League, we can't let Sue get another notch in her thimble case. And remember one vote is a one dollar donation toward finding a cure for Alzheimer's - be generous and cast several votes.
Quilts: Tiny Tea at Tenby by Sue Nickels and Rhapsody for Remembering by Ricky Tims.
