Friday -Visitors from Afar!

It was a good morning at the Lehman house today, and the day just kept getting better. After a delicious chicken salad lunch made by Lester's sister Doris, caregiver Tiffany suggested that Libby do her walking exercises before her company arrived. Libby was just doing her walking exercises with her walker and with Tiffany when the doorbell rang. Together they went to open the front door, and there were the expected and much anticipated visitors - Ricky and Justin! Libby welcomed them into the living room with hugs all around, and with Doris joining them too.

I was about ten minutes late in arriving because of a trail ride on the feeder road on my way, and Lester joined us a little later. Libby loved talking with her friends, even though sometimes she is not able to fully express herself. I had to help fill in the blanks a little on our former trail riding experiences, which I remember a lot more fondly than Libby does. However, she is still Libby and full of vim, vigor, and vinegar, so she manages to express her opinions on important things like showing off her new hairdo and commenting that she likes Ricky's trimmed beard.

Ricky brought a beautiful video of an interview with a lady and her husband in which they describe the lady's tragic story of a severe stroke and then her triumphant decision to make her first quilt, even though she faced the difficult challenges of the use of only one hand. It is a beautiful and inspiring story of one woman's determination and the results are beautifully appliqued quilts that Ricky said were award winning creations.

All of us watched it with Libby, and there were many eyes filled with tears before it was over, including Libby's. She did not really say what she thought about it all, but Libby listened carefully to Ricky's encouraging words to her before and after the video, and we are all hopeful that some day her story will have a similar happy ending.

Doris served us all some of her fantastic flan/carmel pound cake - those Lehmans can really cook! We all complimented her on the sumptuous sweet, but she liked Justin's other "compliment" the best. She was quick to tell baby brother Lester that Justin thought she was Lester's younger sister. We won't say how much older Doris is than Lester, but let's just say that Justin is welcome back Anytime, especially by Doris!

What a wonderful day for Libby today! While the rest of Houston celebrated "Go Texan Day", Libby celebrated getting to visit with good friends Ricky and Justin. Yeehaw!
