Anybody started the Sue Garman quilt yet?

Discussion started by seattlebarbara2003 8 years ago

Pardon if I do this wrong.......I haven't been online much since TQS changed the format, not sure how this works.

Anyhow I just wondered if anyone has started Sue's new quilt?  I need to go buy some printer ink before I can start.

Any pictures?  What colors are you thinking about using?  Have you ever done a Sue Garman quilt before?

Where do we got to talk about this?

I have gotten the first three months done. My measurements are not the same as the pattern states but the sawtooth fit perfectly as did the star border. Not sure whether pattern is right and I am wrong or if the pattern is wrong. I am using teal, black, tan focus fabric, pinks, purples and a gold metallic print. I felt it needed more punch so bought 4 fabrics to add more interest. All of the originals except for white on white and the additional 4 were from my stash.

I've printed out Part one today. I'm not in love with the lime green so I'm swamping that out. Otherwise love this quilt.

Is anyone using the select print and piece that was offered with the kit? Should you print on the shiny side, which is a fusible, or the dull side? Instructional videos only address removing after sewing.

I did Sue's 2009 BOM. It's my favorite quilt I've ever made. This one looks just as gorgeous!

Hi Barbara, I've printed the pattern for Sue's medallion quilt, all I need now is a darker fabric in the Larkspur range then I can't wait to start this quilt. Although I really liked the Rajah quilt, I know I will never finish it and want to use up my Larkspur fabrics. Do we open a new topic on the forum for this?

Hi Pam

For some reason I never quite got to making the Rajah quilt, tho' it is very beautiful.

I've been in kind of a quilting slump (have 3 or 4 quilt tops done but not quilted and one started, a Lone Star in red, white and blue, just wanted to see if I could make one. Now I'm not sure what to do with it)

I really enjoyed making the 2 Sue Garman quilts Stars for a New Day and Ruffled Roses, so thought this one looked good and not too big or complicated. Her instructions are excellent, I just need to be sure to print them to the correct scale. I really enjoy the accuracy of paper piecing. I won't be making the teddy bear or striped quilt.

I googled your fabric Moda Larkspur and it is so pretty. I'll be pulling from my stash, may need to get a light color. Either beige or cream small print. Not sure I'm putting this note in the correct place but oh, well!

Hi Barbara I haven't started Sue's quilt yet, but I do intend to make it. I've printed the pattern and the instructions are so well written. I started the Rajah 2016 BOM but haven't done much, so I'm going to abandon the Rajah and start Sue's pattern. I bought Moda Larkspur fabrics for the Rajah quilt and will use them for Sue's quilt. One of my regrets is not printing the BOM's Sue did a few years ago for TQS,(I was busy with another quilt at the time) so I'm not missing out on this pattern that Sue has designed for TQS. I don't know where we go to talk about this but I'm sure that someone will let us know.
