It's a Crazy Life - It's a Crazy Life , is a quilt about me ...some of my likes, beliefs, journeys, ...I have had endless crazy adventures that helped me evolve into who I am today. This quilt was inspired by Sharon Schamber. It's a Crazy Life I worked on before, during and after cancer treatment. It is not a perfect quilt and shows at times how I felt yet it is still me..since this photo I have done some more work on it and probably always will...

Caroline Sharkey meets Ricky Tims underwater! - I attended a workshop with Caroline Sharkey of NSW Australia for her "Painting with Fabrics & Threads" technique and used a Ricky Tims Convergence for the background. I'd taken a photograph of a turtle at an aquarium so used my drawing from that as the pattern. Snippets of fabrics & threads were placed onto the background and covered with water soluble fabric and machine stitched to keep the threads in place, then it was rinsed to get rid of the washaway. The turtle was made with the same technique and appliqued into place. I used a sparkle fabric for the border with two rows of shaggy wool to define the border.

Uncharted Waters - A wedding quilt for my niece, Uncharted Waters took more than 15 months to cmpolete.

Through The Stars, To The Stars - I made this little quilt for the first House of Fabrics/SoFro contest in 1989. It won the Grand Prize and they sent me a lovely check and a box of goodies. Their businesses have since disappeared. I hope it wasn't me. The quilt now is on permanent loan to my mother, Regina Smith, who lives in Corpus Christi, TX, just up the road a piece. It was one of my first attempts at making a two dimensional surface appear to be three dimensional. It's rather faded since this picture was taken, but still looks quite good for its age.

Dream - My daughter bought the pattern and border fabric for me Mothers Day 2000 (3rd grade). I finished it on Mother's Day 2008 (she was a junior). It took a while to hand applique, so I decided to have it machine quilted so she could have it before she graduated!

Dreaming of Eden - Hand painted, machine raw-edge collage applique and embroidered. Used some vintage African fabrics given to me by a missionary to Africa.

The Elizabeth II - The Elizabeth II is a replica of the ship that brought the first colonists to America in 1587. Yes, it predates the Jamestown settlement. The Elizabeth II colonists established a settlement on Roanoke Island, NC. When a resupply ship returned to the colony in 1589, the colonists had vanished. It is known as the "Lost Colony". The locals here have a saying "don't ask a local for directions, we already lost one colony!".

Flowers for my Valentine - I needed a quilt to display for Valentines day, so I decided to do one with flowers and valentines, so another quilt was born.

The Purple Heather - Traditional Celtic knot designs taken from a variety of sources including Jewellery and tattoo patterns

Red Feather - I have always wanted to make a red & white quilt. This was made as a wedding gift for my nephew.

Roly Poly Redwork - When I saw the reprint of the Roly Poly Animals I knew I had to do them for a future granchild. They were done for a few years and I collected lots of red fabric before I decided on the triple Irish Chain pattern to set them in.

Stars for a New Day my way - I FINALLY finished my 2009 BOM - in time for my guild's show this past October. I love how it turned out and am proud to say it won first place in its category. Now perhaps I can get started on the 2013 BOM!

Graceful Dragons - Designed by my daughter, Wylie (in response to summer boredom), to enter a contest I saw in a magazine. We could use only a particular fabric line, which neither of us liked; I challenged Wylie to design something that would win. We assembled the quilt together, lots of fun! (At least *I* thought so; she hasn't made a quilt since!)

Soul of the Horse- Movement-Strength-Harmony-Trust - Free motion machine quilted with metallic thread. The quilted lines depict the flow of the manes & tails as well as the lines of travel a horse makes.

The Souls Among Us - This quilt was started on January 1, 2011. I wanted to make a tree quilt. During 2011 and 2012 our family had several deaths and births. This quilt grew from the emotions of those events. I struggled with this quilt, but never gave up! I guess that is what life is about!
