Tangerine Dream - This quilt is my entry to the 2011 New Quilts From an Old Favorite contest sponsored by the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY. The block this year is the Orange Peel.
Outta the Loop - Pattern is "Elements of Nature" by Jacqueline de Jonge. Enlarging, changing, and adding to the pattern resulted in an awesome quilt with a lot of open space for beautiful quilting.
Dogwoods In May - I lived in New Jersey and had a beautiful dogwood tree outside my living room window. In 1996 I wrote a poem about my dogwoods. I now live in Costa Rica and treasure my memory of this time and tree. This quilt was inspired by my memories.
The flowers are individually hand painted. Someflowers are 3 dimensional, most were created and backed with additional batting before being appliqued. A line from the poem is hand embroidered. The entire piece is machine quilted...my first attempt at machine quilting...and oh the lessons learned.
The finished quilt will be a gift to a dear and treasured friend.
Surprisingly Cool - I have always admired Jacqueline's paper piece designs and had an opportunity to take a class from her. I selected the color wave as these are my favorite colors.
Equality - This is my latest pattern - and I'm so pleased how it turned out. It was posted on Facebook and went viral! Patterns are now available in Minnesota at Old Alley Quilt Shop in Sherburn, Firefly Quilt Shop and River City Quilts in Mankato; and in Iowa at Red-Roxie Quilt Company in Decorah and The Wooden Thimble in Estherville.
Kaleidoscope "Rainbow over Manhattan". Dedicated to my teacher Jinny Beyer. There are many lessons and works of Jinny Beyer became the inspiration for this work. 4104 pieces, 166 fabrics
Orange Crush - The center of the design is from Carol Doak's book, Easy Stash Quilts. Our guild had an ostrich challenge and I made many selected changes to the original design. I especially like the unusual outside border but my quilter was not so crazy about the number of small flying geese.
Pearl of the Dragon - I saw a photo of a dragon in a book years ago and saved it. I finally decided to enlarge it to incorporate it into a king size quilt I was making for my bed. The quilt also uses the "Strips and Curves" technique developed by Louisa Smith. The designs around the perimeter are Japanese family crests I adapted for applique.
Flaming Dragon Star - Quilt result of a workshop with Judy Niemeyer. Used Kaffe Fassett fabric which made it very bold. Machine quilted on my home machine.
Dragonfly Maiden - ******THIS QUILT HAS BEEN STOLEN******
On the 6th of April 2010 my quilt Dragonfly maiden was taken from a quilt exhabition in St Helens Tasmania. If by some chance you ever see it could you please contact me.
Black Dragon - Quilt is made from a single asymetric block, variously rotated to produce the impression of three black dragons curling around each other. Dragon faces reminiscent of Chinese dragons, claws and scales are free motion quilted.
Dragonfly Rhapsody - Broken Star pattern was from QuiltUniversity.com class by Nyla Morrison. I designed the applique using EQ5.
I designed the dragonflies that I quilted.
Don't Worry, Be Happy (mini) - This is a miniature quilt originally submitted to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) for auction or sale. It earned $75 for AAQI. The small hexagon blocks are made up of 1-inch / 60 degree triangles. It is dedicated to my Mom who gracefully fought Alzheimer's Disease.
Scrappy Baby Blossom - I found this fun little block called 'pineapple blossom' on www.quiltville.com and adapted it for paper foundations. I liked it so much that I made at least six tops using it. This was the first one, and it was made almost entirely with scraps that I had left over from several baby quilts that I had made in the past few years.
