Sam's Bright Hopes
Name of Maker: shibastitcher
Sam's Bright Hopes - A tone on tone quilt in whites, creams and coffee colours, as a sofa throw in response to a request for a 'white quilt'.
Dixie, our Morning Star
Name of Maker: Kathryn Kaser
Dixie, our Morning Star - When a family member died of morbid obesity, I was asked to make three identical quilts from her calico dresses. She was nicknamed "Sunshine" for her wonderful spirit and infectious laugher. On the label I wrote, "Dixie was our Sunshine, Now she is our Morning Star". This too is reversible with diamond-shaped pieces from her brighter dresses, like jewels surrounded by the creamy background fabric.
Back of Friendship's Warmth
Name of Maker: Kathryn Kaser
Back of Friendship's Warmth - Erika's quilt is reversible. This is the back. The date on my camera is incorrect. I like this side for its simplicity. Erika is hosting my daughter and her husband for 2 weeks for their 25th wedding anniversary. Last summer they stayed up all night planning the trip. This quilt is an expression of my gratitude for her wonderful generosity.
Friendship's Warmth for Erika
Name of Maker: Kathryn Kaser
Friendship's Warmth for Erika - Erika & I were penpals from 1955 to 1966. I posted a message on a genealogy site in 2001 which she found 1-1/2 years later. We are great friends. She picked some fabrics last summer while visiting and the rest are from my stash. It is an original design, just kept cutting and putting things on the design wall, changing the original Greek Cross somewhat. Erika has mastered Greek since retiring from work as a health video maker for German TV.

Hearts Don't Fade
Name of Maker: Anne E.M. Zang
Hearts Don't Fade - I made this using a stack of 5" Moda Faded Memories fabric I had. I stippled it and bound it and added the hearts by hand applique afterward because it wasn't quite "there" yet. This quilt was made for hospice through a program with Northwest Suburban Quilters Guild in Arlington Heights, IL. When I told the organizer (a wonderful woman with a long lifetime of experience) the quilting was pretty basic stippling, she said it was fitting because like life, it has no distinct beginning or end....it meanders through many hearts...and I really liked that...
Colorful Quilting Practice
Name of Maker: Anne E.M. Zang
Colorful Quilting Practice - I decided to make a fun rainbow quilt partly to replace the first quilt I had ever made back in 1992 and partly to make a bright colorful quilt that would allow me to practice machine quilting. My rule for myself was to do a different quilting design in each square. Up close, you can tell I was no pro, but I had fun with it, quilting things like, "When you're seeing red, QUILT!" and "I am not perfect" with an arrow pointing to a mistake. I really just wanted to let go and have fun...and I did. I usually keep this in my car in case of emergency picnic.
Peace Love Faith
Name of Maker: Anne E.M. Zang
Peace Love Faith - This is the quilt that threw me into the quilting world after 11 years of sewing barely a stitch. I was inspired to make a quilt for a stranger who had undergone an overwhelming tragedy. Something in me called me to make it, and after struggling with my old broken sewing machine trying to get it done, my husband joined in the cause and came home with a new sewing machine for me as his contribution to the effort. I used intuition for the design, as usual, and in a few spots it is not perfect. This was my first try at machine quilting. I quilted little spirals and and waves and the words, Love, Peace, Faith in the blocks. I truly believe something greater guided my inexperienced hands.
Snippets
Name of Maker: Anne E.M. Zang
Snippets - This was done in an all-day workshop and bordered, quilted, and bound after. The workshop was through the Northwest Suburban Quilters Guild in Arlington Heights, IL at the 2004 Winter Picnic. The teacher had us draw inspiration from a painting in a book and go from there. I don't like to use fusibles in my cuddly quilts, but decided to just let it go and have fun this day. This wall hanging was made using Steam a Seam II and MANY tiny bits of fabric.
Design Dreams
Name of Maker: Anne E.M. Zang
