I'm on fire!
Name of Maker: Allison C. Bayer
I'm on fire! - My father-in-law, Robert E. Miller, was a mail carrier and a volunteer firefighter in his township. I took his t-shirts and the fabric used for the long columns in the quilt were all I had so I built the design around these colums of fabric. Now in his retirement years he snuggles under it to watch his NASCAR races -- backed with a great NASCAR fabric from Alexander Henry.

Soft Saphires
Name of Maker: Allison C. Bayer
Soft Saphires - A customer brought a top to me to longarm quilt made from Oriental fabrics in this Fandango pattern. I had a stack of Robyn Pandolph fabric and made the top to hang in our bedroom. The leftover blocks made a table runner. Pretty and soft and we love it!
Stacks of quilts

Stacks of quilts - This is how I display my the quilts that I've made since I've filled up all the walls and beds in the house! Part of my vintage sewing machine collection sits on top. Sunshine and Shadow
Name of Maker: Granny Fran
Sunshine and Shadow - This is one of the series of journal quilts I made in honor of my Granny. It is based on traditional Sunshine and Shadow quilts with photo transfers of her children and foster sons used as some of the pattern pieces. Her two sons died as children so she fostered three hoomeless brothers as her own. The small blue blocks are all vintage fabrics from Granny's stash.
Lalia:Pieces of a Life
Name of Maker: Granny Fran
Lalia:Pieces of a Life - Back of previous journal quilt. The Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks were made by Granny. The hexagon template was her origainal one made of sandpaper, which I sewed on. Her pattern clipping and her obituary clipping were scanned and printed onto fabric and appliqued on.
Lalia:Pieces of a Life
Name of Maker: Granny Fran
Lalia:Pieces of a Life - This is the front of one of 12 Journal Quilts I made in homage to my Granny, a quilter, who taught me to sew and how to live. The photo transfer is of her as a young woman with her mother, grandparents, and oldest daughter, my aunt. Granny left her Box Under the Bed to me filled with patterns cut from papers and magazines, sample blocks, ephemera, leftover blocks, and vintage fabrics. The Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks were leftovers made by Granny. The crocheted roses were from a worn out pillowcase that she had made. I grew up sleeping under comforters she made of wornout clothing and have some of her used quilts and a special one she made for me. She made a special quilt for each member of her family before she flew away at age 92. She used a treadle machine that my father added converted to run on electricity in the 1950s.
