Design Source - Description | This is the front of one of 12 Journal Quilts I made in homage to my Granny, a quilter, who taught me to sew and how to live. The photo transfer is of her as a young woman with her mother, grandparents, and oldest daughter, my aunt. Granny left her Box Under the Bed to me filled with patterns cut from papers and magazines, sample blocks, ephemera, leftover blocks, and vintage fabrics. The Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks were leftovers made by Granny. The crocheted roses were from a worn out pillowcase that she had made. I grew up sleeping under comforters she made of wornout clothing and have some of her used quilts and a special one she made for me. She made a special quilt for each member of her family before she flew away at age 92. She used a treadle machine that my father added converted to run on electricity in the 1950s. |
