Beloved Spook
Name of Maker: Carol Deards
Beloved Spook - Creating a black dog presented some challenges in bringing depth and contrast to the image. The design was based on the dog's owner's favorite photo.
Halloween Tummy Time
Name of Maker: pjaco
Halloween Tummy Time - Made for girlfriends new grandson, Riley. The back is Charlie Brown Trick or Treat fabric, so cute and timeless. Made this on my new Pfaff expression 2.0 won a couple weekends ago at a quilt shop drawing.
Freckled Star
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Freckled Star - I used the paper piecing patterns from M'Liss Rae Hawley's Mariner's Medallion Quilts, but designed my own setting. I made this quilt for my guild challenge, which was to use the Jane Sassaman red/yellow and purple/green gradated dot fabrics and beads.
Bright Stars
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Bright Stars - I took the feathered star from the 2009 TQS BOM and surrounded it with 6" blocks that I made for a BOM that my local quilting circle did based on Wildflower Sampler by Milligan & Smith. I added a few extra 6" star blocks to make enough, and I designed the borders.
Imagine Like Alice
Name of Maker: Leslie Sorenson
Imagine Like Alice - This is a wall-hanging that I've made for a raffle that will benefit educational funds for women. I was asked to incorporate Alice In Wonderland. I found some theme fabric and had fun making it up as I went along.
Paisley Star
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Paisley Star - I designed this quilt for an "Ugly Fabric Challenge" at Quiltique, my LQS. I machine embroidered the square setting blocks, and used the "ugly" paisley fabric for the outer border.
Fire Tree
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Fire Tree - This was a challenging project. I followed Sally's directions, except for the flying geese border, which I did using Jodi Barrows' Square in a Square method. That resulted in flying geese on the bias, which made precisely fitting that border much easier.
Honu Hula
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Honu Hula - I loved this pattern. I varied the technique by using Sharon Schamber's Piecelique technique instead of the paper piecing and most of the applique method given in the pattern. The heads and legs of the two turtles at the bottom were too close in value to that of the water, so I couched dark green Perle Cotton on them to increase their visibility.
Stipple Sampler
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Stipple Sampler - I made this quilt to practice different stipples on my new longarm, and it is the first quilt I did with the longarm. Each block is a different stipple, about half from Sharon Schamber and half from Leah Day. I designed the border with flowers and feathers.
Garden Games
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Garden Games - I made these "hopscotch" stack and slash blocks in a class with Dianne Hire. Later, I designed the slightly on point setting, and appliqued flowers at the cornerstones with digitized machine embroidery. I put some leftover blocks from Dianne's class and some log cabin blocks on the back.
Tropical Kaliedoscope
Name of Maker: Karen Garth
Tropical Kaliedoscope - The theme print, an Hawaiian shirt fabric, is used in the kaliedoscope blocks and the outer border. This was my first bed-sized quilt.
Bumble Bee Quilt
Name of Maker: beesquilts
Bumble Bee Quilt - I made this quilt top in my second quilt class. We learned various types of block designs plus a few of my own creative blocks...:) I loved the black, yellow, & white fabric bundle I got from KS Quilts but had no idea what I would do with it. Well, with that bundle and a few more prints here's what I ended up with. PS..I also wanted to try out Ricky's simple flying geese technique...I love it. What a blast! I am hooked on quilting.
Pansey
Name of Maker: quiltercaroline
Pansey - This quilt is the first assessment piece that I designed and made for my City and Guild level 2 Patchwork and quilting. The brief was to make a wallhanging using applique for a 'client' who liked flowers and gentle colours. I worked from photos of some flowers I had in my garden. It is the first piece that I have designed completely.
Rose of Sharon block
Name of Maker: Sharon Pederson
Rose of Sharon block - This is the block I designed for the EQ6 Challenge. I was just learning EQ6 and thought this challenge was an opportunity to get to learn the software. I was such a rookie and somewhat computer challenged. I ended up submitting one block...It was chosen as one of 12 finalists and made into a beautiful quilt. (Quilt information given, but photo is of the block only)
Geisha's Daydream
Name of Maker: Randa Mulford
Geisha's Daydream - This one-block wonder quilt uses hexagonal blocks made of two colorways of the print fabric "Zen Charmer". I emphasized the aqua color and tranquil motives. The complementary quilt is "Geisha's Nightmare".
