Japanese Ladies & Koi Fish - It is the 90th anniversary of Janome Sewing machines this year so I decided to make a Japanese themed quilt to celebrate. I used 2 panels of Japanese ladies as well as 2 embroidered blocks - Koi fish - from the Janome Osawa Collection of Fish embroidery designs. The central full length lady is trapunto quilting, rest is all ditch quilting and free motion. Everything has been done by machine: embroidery, piecing & quilting. And , goes without saying, on Janome sewing machines!
Name of Maker: Marian Mccoin, Pat Neilson, Muriel Kennedy
Bed of Roses - This is an updated reproduction of Susan Black Staymans' "Moss Rose" 1853
It is hand appliqued and machine quilted. It was made for P.S.L. Crazy Quilters

Step Back in Time - It took me 6 months to complete the blocks for this quilt, a couple more months to put it all together, then I finally quilted it in June. Eleven months from start to finish. Most of the fabric in the blocks were from my stash and scrap bag. The fabric for the sashing, setting squares and backing were purchased specifically for this quilt. The blocks were all done using paper piecing. I chose a different layout than the book suggested. I wanted the blocks to stand out more as individuals. I searched for what to do on the border, then I saw the flying geese and knew I found it. Laurie Aaron, the author of the book, did an awesome job.
Leaves of Life - This image stuck in my mind for years. Each leaf represents portions of my life. One for Flaming Youth, one for the Southwest, One for the Elk we raise, and the eagle for Overcoming issues.
Fair Winds and Following Seas - This was made for a coast guard cadet that Kim and her family sponsored. Glitter Metallic was used on the stars, the three blocks in the bottom center represent Jay's name, and the sail boats have the dates that he entered the academy and graduated. The Mariners compass is surrounded by the stars to guide him through his career in the Coast Guard.
Conversations of the Heart - I started a project by making 12 heart blocks, then abandoned it. I challenged myself to create a design using the 12 blocks without simply lining them up in rows.
Run For Your Life - My friend achieved her goal of running a marathon in all 50 states. This quilt is made from the t-shirts she accumulated on her quest. It's a celebration of her life.
Cuppa Java Joe - It's just on the design wall now (ignore the green print at the top). I think I'll change the inner red strip to white piping, or maybe do both.
Ikebana It Ain't Either - The Back - This is the back of the Ikebana It Ain't Either quilt. I do like piecing backs rather than having just one fabric on the back. Some is good, more is better, right? Ricky does say that the back should have something to do with the front and I do believe that the back of Ikebana It Ain't Either lives up to his standard.
Ikebana It Ain't Either - Ikebana is the art of arrangement of two or three items - simple - graceful. My thoughts during the process of making this quilt were that since all the fabrics were Japanese, it would be graceful and simple. Well as you can see it is just as busy and fussy as can be. Ikebana it Aint!
A Whole Lot of Stars - I am delighted to have finished this gorgeous BOM from thequiltshow.com. My thanks to Sue G for an absolutely beautiful pattern. A special thanks to my friend, Mary Rossi, who quilted it for me.
