Winter Night
Name of Maker: Mary Valaika
Winter Night - This is a 100% wool quilt made from wool garments purchased at the Goodwill stores. I did buy wool yardage for the borders. This is a gift for my husband: because he asked for a wool quilt. Backing and binding will be a black flannel with a narrow red pinstripe running through it. I will quilt it with a large crosshatch and make a medallion design in the center 4 patch areas surrounded by the gray pieces. Red border will have the same medallion design - maybe a sunburst - and final black border will be a 1" crosshatch.
Autumn Log Cabin
Name of Maker: Christine Wood
Autumn Log Cabin - Traditional log cabin block in barn-raising design. Black sashing was used in between the blocks to give a windowpane effect. Quilted with Baptist Fan design.

Roxie
Name of Maker: Carol Deards
Roxie - This dog caught my attention on Facebook and I asked the owner's permission to make an art quilt of her English Springer Spaniel Roxie. I thought this dog had the most soulful eyes as well as beautiful markings.
Old Italian Block Quilt (detail)
Name of Maker: Anita Grossman Solomon
Old Italian Block Quilt (detail) - A detail of quilt. I included unifying Japanese indigo fabrics throughout. Because of the cutting technique used many backgrounds appear to be fussy cut, but they aren't.
Old Italian Block Quilt

Old Italian Block Quilt - I rotary cut through stacks of fabric for masses of patches without waste then paper pieced each block by initially gluing nine patches onto a sheet of folded vellum paper.

Grid Play - Playing with my own hand-dyed/hand-painted fabrics, thread stash, and fiber collection using a process discussed by Carole Redlich in an article in the Fall 2005 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.
Gougan Barra, Co. Cork, Ireland
Name of Maker: Rita Connolly
Gougan Barra, Co. Cork, Ireland - This was made from a photo of a place in Cork called Gougan Barra. It is the most beautiful little haven at the end of a long drive through rugged mountains. There is literally a hotel on one side of the little lake and a church on the other. There is such a sense of peace and tranquility in the place.

Corkery School 100 years
Name of Maker: Jacquelyn Gipson
Corkery School 100 years - Was asked by the school to create quilt for their 100 year anniversary. Kids donated 6" squares. I designed and created a queen-size quilt in about 3 weeks time. This was a record for me, it even included shopping for all notions and fabric, transfer paper. Some squares were to bulky to quilt so I scanned and transferred them to muslin.
Giraffes in the jungle
Name of Maker: Laura Mullins
Giraffes in the jungle - My first attempt at a convergence quilt. I love the colours of this batik fabric, it brings sunshine into the room. I named the quilt after friends and family said that the fabric made them think of the jungle and the arches reminded them of giraffes.

Alex's Graduation Quilt
Name of Maker: Sharon Flemming
Alex's Graduation Quilt - This is a Queen Size quilt I did for my cousin's son Alex who graduated this year. My cousin has commissioned me to make several quilts and this is the second of the series. I had always wanted to do an Irish Chain block with a star. My cousin and I saw an small ad in a quilt magazine a while ago that we liked (unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the magazine or the name of the ad). I based this quilt on that look and I used the QIAD Triangle in a Square ruler to do the star blocks and ran an Irish chain through it. I used a lot of fabrics by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Brothers which gave the quilt a sort of Williamsburg/Coloniale look. The backing was a plaid flannel as I had a great deal of difficulty finding an adult flannel print locally here in Edmonton, AB, Canada or even online. There seems to be a lack of flannel prints that would be good for backing quilts (which my clients seem to prefer). There are lots of children prints but very few adult prints available. I also quilted it on my new mid-arm machine - the HQ Sweet Sixteen and it was my first attempt. I was pretty pleased with the results though the stitching was pretty shaking in many spots!
