Design Source - Description |
This is a Queen Size quilt I did for my cousin's son Alex who graduated this year. My cousin has commissioned me to make several quilts and this is the second of the series. I had always wanted to do an Irish Chain block with a star. My cousin and I saw an small ad in a quilt magazine a while ago that we liked (unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the magazine or the name of the ad). I based this quilt on that look and I used the QIAD Triangle in a Square ruler to do the star blocks and ran an Irish chain through it. I used a lot of fabrics by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Brothers which gave the quilt a sort of Williamsburg/Coloniale look. The backing was a plaid flannel as I had a great deal of difficulty finding an adult flannel print locally here in Edmonton, AB, Canada or even online. There seems to be a lack of flannel prints that would be good for backing quilts (which my clients seem to prefer). There are lots of children prints but very few adult prints available. I also quilted it on my new mid-arm machine - the HQ Sweet Sixteen and it was my first attempt. I was pretty pleased with the results though the stitching was pretty shaking in many spots! |
