Red and White and Violet
Name of Maker: Nanette Herbst
Red and White and Violet - I have a very dear friend Violet who has been a quilt mentor to me. She is 89 years old. I saw a quilt she had done with this block and loved it. I had the same fabric she used but I was a little short so she gave me her leftover fabric. This quilt has been completely pieced by hand and is in the process of being hand quilted. I may be 89 by the time I get it finished. (I am 45). I set my blocks a little different from hers. I staggered mine because I thought it looked like picture frames on a wall.
Carpe Dicem
Name of Maker: Nanette Herbst
Carpe Dicem - My friend Jackie taught me Stack and Whack on a weekend Quilt Show trip. Thank God she is a great long arm quilter and could quilt out the problems. All my blocks looked like Size D Bra Cups.
Stars and Checks
Name of Maker: Nanette Herbst
Stars and Checks - This was one of the first quilts I ever made by machine. I made two of them. This one was for my daughter and the other was given to a girl from Belarus that we hosted for two summers. It is a fun quilt and I still love bright colored quilts
Flying Monkeys
Name of Maker: Nanette Herbst
Flying Monkeys - My quilt guild had a challenge where you were given a color, a feeling, and an embellishment to use on a quilt. My color was purple, my feeling was anger, and my embellishment was beads. The monkeys jackets have beading on them. I won second prize with this quilt.

Sacramento Kings Quilt
Name of Maker: Karla
Sacramento Kings Quilt - I made this quilt for a silent auction to benefit the school where I was the principal. It brought in $2000, and I was thrilled and surprised. (Our Kings were doing better that year.) A parent at the school made charcoal sketches of the major players and I scanned tham and printed them on fabric to make the white blocks in the inner border. A person with "connections" saw the quilt and got the players to autograph it. This was a major undertaking, but very rewarding.

Kauai Breeze
Name of Maker: Karla
Kauai Breeze - I fell in love with this quilt and had to buy six issues of the magazine to get the patterns! Self-taught and WAY over my head, I learned a great deal as I constructed this quilt with SO many tiny pices and all of those triangles! Cathleen now has a book and this quilt is on the cover.
My Yellow Surprise
Name of Maker: Karla
My Yellow Surprise - I took Charlotte Angotti's class at Quilt Hawaii as a fairly new quilter. I was surprised, all right. I was pleasantly surprised to finish this challenging (to me) quilt in time for our guild's show. Spending time with Charlotte doing one of her mystery quilts is time well spent. She is a riot. Soooo many laughs while we worked.
