Purple Haze over the Strait of Georgia
Name of Maker: Ellen Eastman
Purple Haze over the Strait of Georgia - Three friends and I quilted together for a few years, challenging and encouraging each other and having fun. One of our group suggested we all make this pattern (Strait of Georgia) from M'liss Rae Hawley's book More Fat Quarter Quilts and compare our different styles. The purples I used are from a packet I purchased in Sisters, and the white background is scrappy. I started the quilt when we were still a group, and finally finished it last year. I used silk batting and love the light weight and warmth, and the ease of hand quilting through it.
Arrow Crown on Steroids
Name of Maker: Ellen Eastman
Arrow Crown on Steroids - This quilt is the result of a mystery class by Cornell Hartford at Calico Junction. Cornell wanted to experiment with super-sizing a quilt block. She chose the Arrow Crown block. This was a fun mystery and a good way to use the fish fabric I had been collecting to make a quilt for my husband. I had purchased the top fish fabric in Sisters a few years before when we were passing through on a fishing trip. I had purchase a few years before that a large piece of fish themed flannel so I used that and other fishing related fat quarters to piece a back for the quilt.

Lavender Iris
Name of Maker: qltrdiannne
Lavender Iris - Based on a photo I took, this quilt was started in a class with Sue Turnquist that taught how to create an original design from a photo and turn it into a design for appli-piecing. I embellished it with colored pencils, wax pastels, and free-motion stitching. To give the central petal more definition, I used trapunto by adding two layers of Hobb's Thermore polyester batting behind that petal before adding the cotton batting and backing for quilting.
