qltrdianne Lavender Iris - Based on a photo I took, this quilt was started in a class with Sue Turnquist that taught how to create an original design from a photo and turn it into a design for appli-piecing. I embellished it with colored pencils, wax pastels, and free-motion stitching. To give the central petal more definition, I used trapunto by adding two layers of Hobb's Thermore polyester batting behind that petal before adding the cotton batting and backing for quilting.
