chasing-sunlight
Name of Maker: Karen Watts
This is my original design using the nine-patch block, The center 9-patches were made using Ricky's improvisational curved piecing technique, with the curved sashing pieces machine appliqued on top. The quilt was designed for the New Quilts From an Old Favorite contest and is one of the 18 finalists. The quilt's title came from a song my husband was working on at the time with a lifelong friend in California. Sadly our friend passed away in April 2015 from cancer, making this quilt doubly meaningful to me.

This is an original design using the Carolina Lily block as inspiration. I used dupioni silk for the lilies, which are embellished with hand embroidery. The quilt was awarded 2nd place in the New Quilts From an Old Favorite competition.
piper-i-2
Name of Maker: Anne Mathers
Piper is the beloved Boston Terrier of my husband's neice.  I manipulated a photo of Piper on my computer and used a fusible collage technique to translate it into this fabric portrait. I have made many pet portraits and have gradually been working on ways to enhance the portrait with spectacular backgrounds. I particularly enjoyed making and quilting this green background from a selection of green fabrics from my stash.

homage-to-barn-raising
Name of Maker: Marion Curtis
Freely improvised wall hanging made with batik fabrics. The design was inspired by an ancient stone barn with an amazing wooden roof at a place called Denny Abbey in Cambridgeshire, England. My group, Eastern Region Textiles Forum, was asked by the manager of this English Heritage property to design and make textiles items inspired by the site.  There was a ladder tucked into the roof space so I included a ladder on the back of the quilt. One of the photographs shows it displayed in the barn.
wallpaper
Name of Maker: Floyd Moss
My husband designed this quilt based on an image of some wallpaper being torn off an old wall on a TV renovation show.
He used the colors of the actual wallpaper as closely as he could. I quilted it.

the-lady-of-shalott
Name of Maker: Wilma Moss
This three month Block of the Month kit from Ricky Tims' studio took me a little longer to make! I guess you could say I savored the journey. His pattern and hand-dyed fabrics were used. Excellent printed and video instructions and full-sized pattern including patterns for quilting were provided. I used the quilting motifs provided in the pattern for the outer border, but used other designs for the remaining areas.
tiled-trees-series-skull-creek-sunset
Name of Maker: Peg weschke
This quilt is the second in my series of tiled trees. I used Laura Wasilowski hand-dyed fabric for the tiled sky, water and tree trunk and leaves.  This was inspired by a photograph I took of the sunset on Hilton Head Island's Skull Creek.  The sunset is filtered through the leaves of a large Live Oak tree.
